33cl bottle. Dark brown with a thin tan head. Roasted malts, coffee beans, cherries, bitter cherries. Soft mouthfeel for a schwarzbier. Not bad.

Nice. Quite light, well balanced. The oak works.

Dark brown color. The nose reminds me of at a cheap nightclub on a weekday to drink copious amounts JD and coke. The mouth is a bit sour and astringent and thin bodied but still not bad, with lots of bourbon character. Chocolate malts shine. Bourbon lingers in the finish. Pretty decent for 5.5%. As it warmed up I enjoyed this less and less and it became more astringent.

33 cl bottle @ home (#293/396 - bbe 06-2014 so about time). Clear deep dark brown color with a red hue. Dense frothy beige head with pretty good retention and fair lacing. Smell of whiskey comes out immediately, but also red fruit, oak/vanilla, some roast ed malt, a little umami. Less whiskey-ish retronasal (but still so), more fruity (berries), some licorice, roasted malts. Flavor is fruity, on the verge of being sour, light sweet. Body is rather thin. Flavor disappears quite quickly with a light bitterness remaining. Pleasant and interesting, but the combination of Bourbon and Schwarz is not the bomb.

Very tasty, especially for a schwarzbier. The barrel aging gives it an extra depth and richness.

Although thin bodied and low in alcohol this beer delivers a nice sweet bourbon whiskey background and solid cocoa and dark malts flavours.
