In 2019, The Wild Beer Co, and Firestone Walker Barrelworks once again pull two continents together or the uniquely imaginative Violet Underground Cross-Atlantic Wild Ale. To create this cuvee, we tapped into native Somerset Wild, a proprietary wild yeast used solely by Wild Beer Co. at their facility in England. Sunrise Raspberries and a youthful batch of Bretta Weisse were aged in French Oak Foeders. This aromatic concoction was then blended with a mystical fermentation of French candied violet petals and Somerset Wild Saison. The resulting potion is bursting with aromas of ripe fresh fruit and hints of botanical spice. All anchored together with an expressive native wild yeast. A quenching acidity and lively carbonation round out the collaboration. Sante!

Bottle from 2015 thanks to Felipe. Pours slightly hazy golden, small white head, dissipates slowly, some lacing. Aroma is raspberries, bugs, funk, oak, lemon, floral notes, socks, brett. Flavor is light plus tart, medium funk, light berries. Medium body, soft carbonation. Pretty solid

Bottle at home in London. Pours totally clear gold, highly effervescent, with a frothy white head that fizzes out quickly. Lots of lemon notes in the aroma, hints of metal, wheat, citrus peel. Light sweet flavour with aggressive acidity, a touch more metal, impressions of grape, lemon juice, a little salty sweat. Light bodied with quick and massaging carbonation. Dry on the finish, lip-puckeringly sour, quenching, with more lemon character, salty bite, a little metallic zip, tongue-ripping acidity. Interesting stuff. Definitely a tart little beast. But there’s not a lot of depth to it. Overall, it’s pretty good.

Bottle as a gift. Clear and orange/golden with a hint of amber. Almost no head and a trace of visible carbonation. Grapefruit and lemon, with compost and candy sugar in the aroma. Taste is tart, tart, tart. There’s a moment of sweetness right near the end but it never takes hold. Long luxurious tart finish with lemon juice and overripe apple skins in the aftertaste. Wow.

Tap at the Purecraft Bar and Kitchen, Birmingham. Poured a hazy light amber with a round bubbly white head. The aroma is acid orange citrus, light dough, biscuit. The flavour is moderate sour with a crisp acid, orange marmalade palate. Medium bodied with soft carbonation. Super smooth and highly drinkable.

Nice citrus and light bretta. Hazy golden pour. Tangy finish. Bottle thanks to Travlr. A bit too mouth puckering for me.

375ml bottle, shared with Blackhaddock & Simon F. Pours a hazy golden amber, minimal head. Raspberry pips aroma, fuzzy carbonation. Nice floral notes to this, sadly no parma violets, some soft berries. Light sour. Lacks the flavour I was expecting unfortunately.
