6.4/10 Appearance 8 Aroma 6 Flavor 6 Texture 6 Overall 6.5
Location: 22 oz bottle from Sparrow, 7/23/15

Aroma: The nose is big and malty, caramel, grapefruit and a bit of booze
Appearance: Pours a reddish-amber color with a sheeting off-white head
Flavor: Tastes pretty sweet as well, heavy malty, grapefruit, medium bitterness
Palate: The body is medium-plus, kind of sticky, boozy, smooth, with s soft carbonation
Overall Impression: Was hoping to like this more as generally enjoy this style quite a bit. Just felt like a bit of miss to me. Not bad, but too sweet. Mouthfeel is only okay.

Snygg.

22 ounce bottle into tulip glass, bottled in 3/2015. Pours slightly hazy ruby red/copper color with a 1-2 finger dense light khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings around the glass. Aromas of big grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, lemon zest, orange peel, pine, caramel, toffee, toast, brown sugar, and floral/grassy earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great complexity and balance of juicy citrus/pine hops and dark/bready malt sweetness; with great strength. Taste of big grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, lemon zest, orange peel, pine, caramel, toffee, toast, brown sugar, and floral/grassy earthiness. Moderate amount of pine/citrus rind bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, lemon/orange zest, pine, caramel, toffee, toast, brown sugar, and floral/grassy earthiness on the finish for a while. Fantastic complexity, robustness, and balance of juicy citrus/pine hops and dark/bready malt sweetness; with a great malt/bitterness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and medium-full bodied; with a very smooth and moderately creamy/sticky mouthfeel that is great. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a light warmth lingering after the finish. Overall this is an awesome imperial red ale. All around great complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/pine hops and dark/bready malt sweetness; and very smooth to drink for the big ABV. A highly enjoyable offering.
