Basilius is a dark copper-colored beer with 7% alc.. This thirst-quenching beer gets its soft caramel aromas exclusively from the barley malts used. The hop varieties Amarillo and Saaz, on the other hand, provide a subtle fruity (orange) and spicy aroma and a refined bitterness. EBC 57. Density 16° Plato.

33 cl. bottle @ ’t Brugs Beertje // 7 % Belgian Ale commissioned by Brugs Bierinstituut at the Proef // haven’t seen this anywhere else except @ ‘t Brugs Beertje & @ Brugs Beer Festival // assume that this is a very local beer // label is just the name in fancy Germanic letter type // reddish amber with an uneven off-white head // smells of sweet caramel, candy sugar, caramelized apple, caramel malts // taste is Belgian yeast, sweet caramel apples, candy fruits, caramelized brown sugar, dash coffee, bitter floral finish // bit too much carb. for me // much better than I expected this is quite good // definitely better & more memorable than the White Zwaan that they also commissioned, if you ever come across this, you might consider picking it up

Bottle. Amber colour with a beige head. Aroma is fruit, malt, caramel. Flavour is fruit, roasted malt, caramel,dried fruits, hop. Medium to full body. Nice beer.

Bottle 750ml. corked @ [ Fastelavn Smagning - Carnival Tasting - Ulfborg ].Clear medium to dark orange amber colour with a average to large, frothy, good lacing, mostly lasting, off-white to beige head. Aroma is moderate malty, caramel, caramelized malt, moderate yeasty. Flavour is moderate sweet and bitter with a average to long duration. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft. Bottle, 75cl. There’s a few small floaties in this one, else it’s clear, with a dark amber body and a small but firm light beige head. The aroma has some toffee and a little bit of roasted malts, as well as both fresh and dried fruits. Mostly dried though. The flavor has a pleasant sweetness, with malts, roasted notes, dried fruits and some faint bitterness. Medium to full body, dry and pleasantly carbonated. There’s a more pronounced bitterness in the end, but still it can’t really be classified as bitter. Anyway, it’s a beer I wouldn’t mind drinking again, I like the way the flavors are integrated. 120218

Bottle @ Fastelavnssmagning 2012, Ulfborg. Pours cloudy dark copper with a creamy head. Nose is yeast and fruity hops. Flavor likewise with a whiff of alcohol and caramel. Full bodied.
