Love’s Armor is a blend of two complex, barrel-aged beers: Farmhouse Noir, a darker and stronger take on the saison style, and Chavez, our robust porter that we age on cherries. In the depths of this blend are full notes of chocolate and coffee, stone fruit and vanilla, with fainter wisps of tobacco, smoke and worn leather. A dry tartness pervades, providing an arena for robust interplay between malt-driven sweetness and microbe-induced funk. Deceptively potent and flavorful, Love’s Armor is meant for sharing, and will compliment the heartiest of meals. While shimmering now with flavors redolent of fine wine, encouraged to mature, Love’s Armor will reward patience.

Bottle courtesy of André. Pours hazy reddish black with a frothy mocha head that leaves some sparse trace on the glass while dissipating. Smell is malty, tiny fruity and tiny funky with roasted malts, toasted cereal, dark bread, lemon juice, moist soil, tobacco, liquorice, barnyard and lemon zest. Taste is sour, malty, tiny fruity and slightly funky. Mouthfeel is soft, dry, tart and medium bodied. Finish is sour with roasted malts, toasted cereal, lemon juice, moist soil, damp hay, liquorice, burnt wood, barnyard, lemon zest and hints of alcohol. Solid sour stout. Pity sour stout still is pretty much impossible to pull off. --- Beer merged from original tick of Sante Adairius Love's Armor on 29 Dec 2015 at 23:23 - Score: 7. Tasting at Matt’s
Dark brown color with sparse head. Intense aroma of dark malts, moderately sour, but also with a dusty note. Good body strength, yet the carbonation keeps the mouthfeel lean; a bit chocolately, and wisely sour; the final is drier and just a bit astringent.
Nice.

750mL bottle, pours a deep dark brown with an amber tinge and a small beige head. Aroma brings out dark dried fruit, tobacco, tartness, and leather. Flavour is very complex, with leather and tobacco upfront, with some roast and light tart dark fruits. Very elegant and complex, with everything in perfect balance. Excellent beer.

What the Funk, Denver, October 2014. Pours a darkish red brown appearance with a thin brown head. Twangy, somewhat funky flavor. Fairly roasty and fairly hoppy. There’s also some additional tannins and a bit of leather. A little bit of spiciness in the background as well. I wasn’t a huge fan of this but others at the festival did really enjoy it.

Cloudy prune color. Nose is grape forward with cherry persimmon. Taste is minor stale with oak forward ash, cocoa and hay. Tannic bright grape and wild. Very close to phenomenology of spirit in both taste and mouthfeel.

Bottle thanks to Aaron. It pours darkest brown with a thick light tan head. The nose is tangy, sour green apple, lemon, toast, candy, light roast and sour fruit salad. The taste is smooth, tart, light toast, lemon, green apple, sherbet, sour sweets, candy, fruit salad, citrus and mild acidity. Medium body and fine carbonation. A smooth, crisp and rather approachable sour. Well balanced and tasty.
