Love’s Armor is a blend of two complex, barrel-aged beers: Farmhouse Noir, a darker and stronger take on the saison style, and Chavez, our robust porter that we age on cherries. In the depths of this blend are full notes of chocolate and coffee, stone fruit and vanilla, with fainter wisps of tobacco, smoke and worn leather. A dry tartness pervades, providing an arena for robust interplay between malt-driven sweetness and microbe-induced funk. Deceptively potent and flavorful, Love’s Armor is meant for sharing, and will compliment the heartiest of meals. While shimmering now with flavors redolent of fine wine, encouraged to mature, Love’s Armor will reward patience.

Bottle shared at CBC Clerkenwell in London - big thanks to Aaron. Pours dark brown with a creamy, tan head. Acetic berries in the nose with some decent tangy funk. Light sweet flavor with strong, bracing acetic berry twang, faint vinegar, ripe blackberries. Medium bodied with fine, fizzy carbonation. Good sour berry finish with further acetic punch and a bit of funk. Nice one.

Bottle split at CBC, big thanks to Aaron for hauling this one over the pond - he was so keen to see us all again he came 5 months early ! 05/12/13. Murky mahogony brown with a thin tan swirl and edgework. Nose is tartened dark fruits, burnt plum notes, dank straw, smoke, touch of dry rot, dark berry fruit, dirty wood. Taste comprises light burnt notes, dank straw, funky, tarte blueberries, barnyard, dark fruits. Medium bodied, fine carbonation leading to a dry finale with a lactic tang. Top draw sour affair!

Bottle tasting at Craft Clerkenwell. Thanks to Aaron. Opaque dark brown beer with a small pale tan head. Palate is crispy and dry. Mild minerals. Tangy dark fruits with a touch of sour cherry. Little sherbet and coca cola, well buried. Finishes light and crisp. Good.

Bottle - thanks to Mike for the share! Pours opaque brown with a small tan head and decent lacing. Aroma is interesting with notes of tart cherry, roastiness, and oak. Flavor is the same, with oaky and roasty notes mixing quite well with the tart and bit of funk. Light tart, light sweet, with light astringence from the time spent in the wood. Perhaps some cigarette action going on as well. Medium body. Interesting beer.

Bottle at the Deanso’s monthly RB tasting, July 2013. Poured a dark brown with a thin off-white broken head. The aroma is sour! Yes, you know what’s coming next! The flavour is medium sour, lots of acidity with some weak grapefruit citrus on the palate. A super beer actually if you are a sour-head.

Bottle shared at Dean’s sticky table tasting. Pours dark brown with a tan head. Aroma of grapes, light barnyard, sharp fruit, malt. Flavour is moderate acidic and light to moderate sweet. Medium to full bodied with light carbonation.

Aroma is mostly tart and vinous with some red and white wine notes. It is also quite fruity with tart cherry and plums. Some faint chocolate and roast notes, but this leans more towards fruit and wine in the aroma. Pours a dark brown with lighter highlights on the edges. Thin tab head recedes fairly quickly but leaves behind moderate lacing. Medium sized legs. Flavor is rather tart with lots of cherry and plum. There is also a bit of a wine character, fruity like a Pinot Noir. Not much roast at all and only a light chocolate note in the finish. There are hints of tobacco and leather in the finish as well. A really nice dark sour beer with tons of fruit. Light bitterness and fairly dry in the finish. Sourness is refreshing without being mouth puckering. No horse blanket style funk, just tart cherry funk. Medium bodied with medium carbonation. Low astringency and moderate alcohol warmth. Overall a very enjoyable beer though most of the dark malt character has receded to the finish which I actually find more enjoyable. I could certainly drink a bottle of this to myself. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle. Dark mahogony beer with a dark cream head. Tart and light dark malt aroma. Tart flavor with light fruitiness and wine characteristics. Medium bodied. Tart and light fruitiness linger with wine and light oak. Very nice.
