Wheatwine Ale brewed with Peppercorns, Blood Oranges, and Orange Zest.

We have made a handful of different beers to celebrate the beginning of Short’s, but this Anni Ale is our most made, most requested, and arguably our most favorite. You might read “blood orange wheatwine with peppercorns and orange zest” and be like “how the heck will that even work and what the heck will that even taste like?” and we get that. But trust us, we’ve been doing this for 21 years. Our original Short’s beers are old enough to drink themselves now! This beer is a dang delight, a real pleasure-giver full of a depth of flavor you have to experience to understand. Celebrate with us, won’t you?

Bottle. Pours a brownish burgundy with a very small light wooden brown head. Aroma has a combination of caramel and blood orange with a slight undertone of pepper. Flavor begins sweet with caramel but the finish brings a blood orange note that helps balance out the flavor nicely. There was a hint of spice and some coriander in the finish

GABF2009 - tons of spruce and juicy hop goodness - a lot of nice heat that seems to be equally from alcohol and the peppercorns - quite a bit of sweet orange through the middle, then some tangy orange zest through the finish - the wheat finally comes through on the end, lending itself well to the tanginess of the orange peel - ends peppery and fairly bitter - another good-not-great brew from shorts.
