Thornbridge Imperial Raspberry Stout. We all know that drinking beer is a congenital pastime and brewing beer can be just as fraternal. This collaboration between Rob Lovatt of Thornbridge and Jessica Heidrich St. Eriks is testament to the friendship and inspiration that brewing can produce.

This Imperial Raspberry Stout pours rich and dark with aromas and tastes of liquorice and chocolate, complimented by the generous infusion of prime Scottish raspberries.

On tap @ Borefts 2013. Looks quite delicious there in the glass with its medium sized dark brown bubbly head and the dark brown body. Smells like raspberry chocolate. Freeze dried raspberries blended with both wild strawberries and chocolate. Smells really inviting and good. The sweet raspberries in the aroma is transferred to sour raspberries in the taste. Almost lime zest sour in a way. A little spicy kick is also found here. It's above average on the carbo and nice gliding oily in the mouth. Of course the raspberries dominates, and it's hard to pinpoint any other major flavors here. I kinda like it though! 27.09.2013

500ml bottle from Thornbridge Brewery - Deep black / brown body, thick tan head, turning to thin wispy lacer. Nose has a lot of ripe fruit, sour raspberry, bit of smoky chocolate in the background. Taste has a tartness about it, decent rounded body, long bitter finish. Not a fan of raspberries really, so it might give me a bit of bias against it.

500ml bottle from the brewery online shop. Very dark brown pour, red tinged head. Big raspberry jam aromas, as it catches on the bottom of the pan and some of the sugar sticks and burns. Dark chocolate on the taste, more fruit, and a balancing light sour note. Lovely.

Bottled:
Pours black with a large head. Aroma is fudge, licorice and raspberries; smells like a candy store! Surprisingly thin mouth feel. Flavour is roasted malt, licorice and wood followed by a tart raspberry finish. A bit unbalanced.

Tap @SBWF 2013
Dark brown color, small brownish head. Licorice in the nose. Medium to full bodied. Salt licorice, some tartness, caramel in the flavor. Interesting. (7/4/7/3/13 3.4) Tap @SBWF 2013, rerate next day
Dark opaque black color, steady small brown head. Deep rasberry aroma. Full-bodied. Lots of rasberry but it is behind the stoutish flavors. Interesting. Thornbridge finger prints. Some similarities to same kind of beer from BrewDog’s Abstract series. (7/4/7/4/14 3.6)

Black color with large brownish head. Aroma of roasted malt and light aroma of berries. The mouthfeel is a bit too much carbonated; strong flavor of roasted malt, some chocolate malt, some raspberries; unfortunately the acidity of the fruits clashes with the medium roastiness, and increases the difficulty to drink this beer.

2013-10-05, hand pull at Bishop’s Arms, Malmö, Gustav Adolf Torg, 7-4-7-3-13=34
Black color with creamy beige head. Mild aroma of creamy roasted malts and evident raspberries. Full bodied, with dark malts and caramel, but not ashy, moderate sweetness, moderate acidity introducing a strong raspberry character. Correct bitterness. Some tannins in the end.
I hope this is the death of raspberry stouts; even in cakes, the mix doesn’t really work well for me.

Draft. A pitch black beer with a brown head. The aroma has notes of raspberries, roasted malt, bread, and chocolate. The flavor is sweet with notes of raspberries, roasted malt, and chocolate, as well as lighter notes of fruits.
