Every year since its inception in 1992, we strive to honor the original Bourbon County Stout recipe. And, 30 years later, we continue Gregory Hall’s legacy and passion for making the best beer possible, starting with the best barrels the bourbon trail has to offer. This year, our Imperial Stout is aged and blended from freshly emptied bourbon barrels from Heaven Hill, Four Roses, Wild Turkey, and Buffalo Trace distilleries. Expect flavors of vanilla, dark chocolate, toffee, molasses, almond, and dried fruit.

Bottle cellared for 5+years. Dark brown pour with a ring of foamy beige head. Big boozy aroma, chocolate, sweet, molasses. Taste is sweet up front, brown sugar, roasty malts, chocolate with the alcohol taking a two pronged approach; rising up from the mouth into the nasal cavity, and a nice burn in the throat on the way down. This is excellent, hard to tell if the cellaring had any impact or not.

Pint Bottle. Bottled 2020, best by 30 July 2025. Pours a dense black color with a small brown head that quickly dissipates. The aroma is strong with anise, chocolate liqueur, vanilla and some whiskey barrel. The taste mirrors the aroma, lots of chocolate liqueur, anise, coffee vanilla and whiskey. The palate is full and oily with soft carbonation. Finishes long and glorious. Overall: decent--One of the classic BA stouts.

2024 bottle from Kroger. Pours a pitch black with a finger of brown head that dissipates. Bourbon focused nose with brownies, fudge, vanilla, oak and marzipan aromas all present. Fairly thick bodied, with lots of bourbon soaked fudge and brownie on the palate. A bit of vanilla underneath and faint coconut aromas as it warms. Decadent and full-bodied stout that is bourbon focused. One of the better base releases in the past few years.

28 July 2024. Bottle from Beer Republic. Vintage 2017, 14,1%. Hazy black, stable, frothy, beige head. Intense aroma of bourbon, green apple (acetaldehyde, more than I actually expected from a 7yr old bottle), melting fondant, black olive, prune, dark fudge, soy sauce, oak, tobacco, salmiak. Taste has sweet prune & date in a thick, delicious, yet refined dark-chocolatey, dark fudge-like malt body with umami edges of soy & black olive; just a hint of sour green apple as well and softly bitter coffee bean. Herbal & peppery hoppy finish, ongoing bitter fondant, coffee & tobacco, blending well with an oak accent and the inevitable warming bourbon alcohol. Full body, oily texture, soft carbonation. Delicious & decadent, a pure delight to drink the 'Mother of all BBAs'; although I cannot shake the afterthought that I expected the bourbon treatment to have mellowed a bit more. But in the end, that's just nitpicking with a beer like this.
27 February 2026. BCBS Tasting @ Stacks (Sint-Kruis). Cheers to Ward for hosting the event!
Intense bourbon, molten fondant, burnt brown sugar, vanilla. Sweet molten chocolate, vanilla, brown sugar, umami olive. Peppery hops, oak, warming bourbon alcohol. Full body, sticky-creamy texture, soft carbonation. Still ever so lovely!
