Hops, hops, hops. The Kompaan 58 Handlanger has skipped the process of a normal IPA and has hopped over to adulthood. Backwards engineering! Lots of hops: Simcoe, Amarillo and El Dorado and three kinds of malts. A full flavored double IPA of 8.2%, but beware!
This beer is strong, but doesn’t taste as quite as dangerous--just like a night on the town with your “handlangers” (accomplices). Citrusy notes in smell and taste in combination with a tropical fruit palate and a bittersweet aftertaste.

On tap @ De Wildeman. This is a a somewhat darker beer than I had imagined. Really deep dark almost copperish on color, cloudy and it has a nice medium sized islandy and bubbly off-white head. A tad milder and sweet on the nose. No real American IPA bomb that hits the nose. Caramelized with lots of fruity peaches, gentle, balanced but nice. Yeah, it's definitely not an American IPA. Lots of buttery caramel in the taste. A tad harsh, lots of wet leafs, yeast and it just doesn't give me any real pleasure drinking it. A nice day and situation gives this a bit better score than I really feel it deserves. 07.03.2014

Hazy gold beer, small pale cream coloured head. Palate is dry and crispy. Smooth malt, grainy sweet. Piney orange marmalade hops, turning a little minty. Light.dry finish. Piney bitter linger. Bit heavy on the grain but fine.

In de Wildeman, Amsterdam tap: Pours a murky light brown with a tan head. Aroma is mostly malty, but with some earthy hoppiness. Taste is sort of medicinal and perhaps a tad soapy. There is certainly a bitter finish. Lingering hoppy aftertaste. This wasn’t bad, but the hop character didn’t quite cut it. Alcohol was fairly well-covered though. I can’t say that this wasn’t fresh either because I got this off the tap.

Bottled @ DDDH, small sample. Hazy amber color, short off-white head. Aroma of some citrussy hop, some spicy yeast. Bit bitter in taste, bit sweet. Not a clean beer, like more of the Kompaan brews. I dont dislike some yeast esters, but keep away from putting wrong style tags on your marketing please.
