First brewed in 2008 at our original brewery in downtown Kalamazoo, Oarsman Ale grew out of our desire to explore the tradition of session beers and to create a unique, flavorful experience for everyone, no matter what the occasion.

Tart and refreshing, this sessionable, bright Wheat Ale exudes citrus and lemony aromas from Cascade hops and trades sour intensity for finesse. A perfect companion for any occasion, Oarsman Ale is a beer based in tradition, but with that distinctive Bell’s twist.

A perfect beer to compliment any menu.

Bottle at World of Beer Savannah. It pours hazy pale yellow with a small white head. The nose is clean, light lemon, faint soap and wheat. The taste is smooth, light tartness, lemon, wheat, light lactic notes, nectarine and light soap with a clean, dry finish. Light-medium body and fine carbonation. Clean, smooth and easy drinking. If this was a bit more tart it could be great. Still pretty decent.

Very sour with a dose of brett. Pours clear blond - too clean for style. Aroma of lime and brett. Taste just sour. Lacks in grace for style. On tap at brewpub.

Sample at the Decatur Craft Beer Festival. Pours hazy, pale yellow with a small, white head. The aroma is strong citrus, biscuit, and coriander. The flavor is very tart and sweet. The mouthfeel is medium, very astringent and acidic, and light carbonation. Overall, this is a crisp ad flavorful wheat ale.

Bottle thanks to the mother-in-law: Poured a clear blonde with a whispering white head. The aroma is huge funk, souring to the nose, and cheese. The taste was blandish with light tartness, lemon, mashed wheat, and some herbal finish. I’m not big on tart beers so I found this to be a very drinkable Berliner Weisse.

Bottle. Pours a cloudy yellow with a small frothy white head that diminishes rather quickly. The aroma is tart and sour fruit. Thin mouthfeel with a strong tart flavor and sour finish. Easy to drink a very good berliner weisse from Bells.
