Pours a murky amber brown with a nice beige head. Nutty malt with citrus hops. There’s a cola tang to the beer, which doesn’t really work for me. I’m also finding some caramel, molasses and a touch of something plasticky. There’s also some banana and spice. The yeast notes seem kinda all over the place. Feel is a bit thin. Taste is sweet with a mildly hop bitter finish. It has a bit of a malted milk ball taste, not quite DME but a bit raw. Decent beer but it lacks the richness that I was hoping for.

Nice hazy deep brown coloured body with a thick two centimetre tall light brown head. Aroma of nuts, cherries, vanilla and a little oak and a tiny amount of light hops. Light to Medium-bodied; Assertive malt, earth, caramel, nuts, almonds and a tiny amount of smoked peat. Aftertaste is relatively complex with a good caramel sweetness, some light chocolate, a touch of coffee even, along with a good pit fruit and cherry flavour along with a good earthy bite. Overall, a nice and complex brown with a lot of good flavours, but not a pungent or overpowering kick at all. I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased from Wegman’s in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania on 22-July-2011 sampled at home in Washington on 29-July-2011.

Bottle 65 cl. Pours a clear orangey brown with a small off-white head. Very fruity, roasty nose, dried fruit and vanilla. Medium body, heavy sweet roast, again dark plummy fruits – even overripe. A little chocolate too. Roasty bitterness. Very pleasant. 230711

Bottled. A deep red beer with a tan head. The aroma has notes of caramel, over ripe fruits, spices, and malt. The flavor is sweet with notes of malt, spices, over ripe fruits, and toffee, leading to a dry roasted bready finish.

On draughts at The Trappist. Full, malty aroma. Pours deep chestnut brown with deep red on the edges. Large brown head. Minuscule bubbles and clinging down the glass. Taste of massive, semi-sweet chocolate. Not overpowering. Chewy mouthfeel but a clean, crisp finish. Nice carbonation as well. Easy drinking and delightful.

Bottle. Pours brown with a thick grayish brown head that dissipates slowly to the edges. Aroma is full of malts with dark grains and bread coming through as well as a bit of an odd dark fruit note. Flavor is similar with the same odd dark fruit note that muddles a nice dark grain and dark bread body with a bit of a sweet backing.

Bottle at Maltzilla’s tasting. Aromas of toasted malts, bananas, bread and chocolate. Flavors of chocolate covered bananas and toated malts. Medium body with moderate carbonation. Strange but decent.

Pours a cloudy dark brown with ruby highlights and a big bubbly head that sticks around for a bit before sticking itself to the glass. Smells of chocolate, caramel, brown sugar, and sweet malts. Tastes is sweet malts with lots of brown sugar and chocolate. has a hint of spicy yeast in there as well. Crisp carbonation, medium body, light syrupy mouthfeel. Great little session brown, I wish they put this in a six pack I’d buy it all the time.
