(Bottle, 0.65 l, at Pikkulintu, 20111203) The beer poured dark brown and quite clear. Its head was medium sized and white. Aroma had Belgian style yeast, malts, tar, aniseed and hops. Palate was medium bodied and dry with medium carbonation. Flavours were malts, Belgian style yeast, saltiness, liquorice, hops, pine, tar and bitterness. Aftertaste was malty, yeasty and bitter. Good yeast that provided interesting flavours.

Pours clear and dark brown with lots of garnet highlights under a tall, thick, creamy tan head. Sweet nutty malt aroma. Sweet flavor that follows the aroma. A bit thin, but in no way is it watery. Decent beer, a bit on the sweet side.

Beef, brown sugar, and cherry cola nose. Garnet brown, medium yellow head. Flavor is also meaty with cherry accents. There is an overriding presence of unmalted grain. Bark and clover toward the end. Alcohol is a little much for 5.7%. A unique take on a style that is usually pretty bland and boring.

My wife brought this one back from a trip to Rochester. This is my first beer from this brewer. +++ Sampled from a 22 oz brown bottle this beer poured a dark brown color with a medium sized foamy tan head. The aroma was sweetish cola with touches of anise and cherry. The flavor was dryish and a bit nutty with fairly strong cola and touches of wood, vanilla, cherry and toast. The finish was medium length dry wood, nut and cola. Medium body. Ok.

22 oz bottle purchased at the Whole Foods Chelsea, New York City. Bottled Mar 2011 Batch 10. Pour is a deep brown, cloudy, with a firm two inch khaki head. Heads falls slow with thick sheets of lace. Pretty beer. The aroma is sweetly nutty, along with a hint of mineral roastiness. As it warms, an interesting yeast nutmeg character comes out. The taste follows the nose, with mildly vanilla sweet and nutty malt, drying out to a mineral, light char finish. The yeast is there too, most prominently in the longish finish. Palate is light to medium bodied, pleasant unfiltered mouth feel, and the dry finish. The yeast nutmeg does linger a bit long for my tastes, detracting a touch from the malt and mineral I enjoyed. Regardless, nice beer - well crafted.

22 fl oz bottle. Pours dark brown, deep amber and with a huge tan to brown head. Aroma is fruity, light caramelish and towards toffee. Bitter, dark malty, dry and overripe fruits although a bit subdued. Light yeasty and dry dark malty into a dry and bitter finish.

Pours a murky amber brown with a nice beige head. Nutty malt with citrus hops. There’s a cola tang to the beer, which doesn’t really work for me. I’m also finding some caramel, molasses and a touch of something plasticky. There’s also some banana and spice. The yeast notes seem kinda all over the place. Feel is a bit thin. Taste is sweet with a mildly hop bitter finish. It has a bit of a malted milk ball taste, not quite DME but a bit raw. Decent beer but it lacks the richness that I was hoping for.
