Bottle at Mikkeller Stockholm. Pours hazy amber. Very nice full and smooth mouthfeel. Caramel, fudge and some citrusy hops, but in total, more malt than hops.

Bottle, Beer Moth, Manchester. Dark amber pour with a decent off-white head. Nose was fragrant hop aplenty, booze, citrus and sweet malts. Flavour ploughed a similar furrow with robust hop bitterness and quite prominent alcohol. Overall the hops on show here are terrific and this is a very tasty DIPA. Liking all the output I’ve tasted from the Drake’s stable very much.

A bottle of this found it’s way to a bottle swap in De Bierboom, Brugge on 31st Jan 2014: thank you to the unknown kind person. I managed to grab a good third of a pint from the passing bottle and took a few notes while trying to drink it and not miss anything else interesting that might pass my way: this piece is from those said notes. Slight haze to my already opened bottle, orange to golden with a grubby white head. Hops, and more hops, it smells of hops: enough hops already, some maltiness hides behind the huge hop attack. I tried to fend it off by watching a Swiss Saint Bon Chein bottle of unknown vintage fly by: bugger! This was fine though, especially if you’re into hops. I see an Old Numbskull bottle coming my way: I’ve got to neck this, sorry. Hey there’s Black Damnation over there, I wonder if it’s Black Mes? (it was, hurray, I got some) Christ that was hoppy. I’ll try and give this beer more time and reverence if I come across it again, it deserves better than I gave it.

Bottle. Bright copper with a puffy off white head that collapses a bit but laces well and never disappears. Aroma of grapefruit, pine, bread, spices, some obvious alcohol. Sweet and syrupy with more bread than caramel. Dries out a little towards the end, thankfully, grapefruit, kumquat, pineapple and pine shine rather than lumber through. Fairly high bitterness, slightly astringent. A little hot at the end, too. Pretty good.

bottle pours fuzzy amber, small white head sweet hoppy smell sugary, malty, hoppy taste . bit bitterness, but ’cornflake-taste ’overpowers the hops a bit . rather high carbo i like it, but it a bit weird to taste more malt than hops in a IIPA . To old, perhaps ? still awsome though !

Medium beige head. Deep dark red body with light carbonation. Earthy fruity strawy aroma with resiny notes. Dryish earthy strawy fruity taste with resiny spicy notes. Mid-to-full body. Sharpish mouthfeel. Dry resiny raisiny fruity aftertaste with dusty roasty minty notes. Nice. A very good beer, highly drinkable, with lovely malt profile. Very similar to yesterday’s Jolly Rodger, also from Drake’s. (0.65l bottle, from Kihoskh, Copenhagen.)

I didn’t hear a hiss when I popped the cap but with the pour, a deep gold with a 1 finger head of foam, my worries got the hell out of Dodge. Another brew here with fine lacing. It looks great.

Bready malt, caramel malt, dominate the nose. Oh shoot, this bottle has already been aged for me. Bottled on May 10th. I guess that explains the lack of any hoppy aromas.

At this stage, it is more of an all malt DIPA and it tastes great! Lots of freshly baked bread like flavour, some caramel sweetness, no hint...zero bitterness and quite the hunk of alcohol heat. It makes me curious as to what a bit of hop bitterness would have been like in a fresh bottle but being only 4 months old, I’d reckon it couldn’t have been too big and bold. The flavours are now starting to wear on me. Great, sadly, has become okay.

Great mouthfeel and there’s now some sort of bitterness going on, I’d say a bit of roughish pine. I’ve had a few Drake beers and this is most likely my least favourite. Yes, it is. Oh well, the others I’ve had were top notch.
