KOMES PORTER reflects the history of brewing, referring to the 18th century tradition of brewing porters in the Baltic states. At their prime, Baltic porters represented one third of the market, which is the best evidence of their popularity. We offer you a well-balanced, dark, strong beer with a distinct flavour. Slow fermentation at low temperatures in open vats, coupled with long (at least 3 months) maturation have resulted in the beer’s character and complete, complex nature. The Porter’s bouquet matures further in the bottle. Time is on its side.

Bottle, from Malt & Mold. Pours dark brown with faint ruby highlights, large spongy tan head, mocha-faint rum aroma, adequate carbonation, medium sweet mocha taste with coffee bitterness, faint alcohol undertones, smooth body, long finish. Well balanced and well covered ABV.

The Aromas are dark malt, roast, cocoa, some black patent and a bit of Funk. Flavors are like nose, mildly sweet up front with some carbonation to balance and some metallic minerals in the Finish. Little sign of the strength. Good body, nice beer.

.5l bottle from Boise Co-op. Dark brown pour, beige head dissipates to flat. Roasty, woody aroma, dark chocolate. Taste reveals more chocolate, mild sweetness. A bit sticky at the finish.

2012 bottle. Deep dark brown color. Coffee, roast and licorice in the aroma. Malty sweet, creamy flavor with loads of licorice. Potentially good, but out of balance.

Pour is a pretty much all black with a large tan head. Aroma is a bit of charred malt and a huge molasses sweetness. Flavor is a nice char malt with some rough tobacco and some marshmallow sweetness. Not as sweet as I thought it was going to be but still a bit sweeter than i think is the usual for the style. Still plenty flavorful and no alcohol is felt .

Bottle pour into tulip glass. Appearance is clear, dark brown with mahogany, trace sparkle, 2-finger width foamy beige head with decent retention and light leggy lacing. Aroma is roasted malts, earthy bitterness, hint of dark fruit. Taste is roasted malt, earthy bitter, mild chocolate and hint dark fruit. Palate is light-to-medium bodied with thin texture, soft carbonation and finish as taste. Overall, nice, easy roastiness. Great balance of sweet and bitter.

500 ml bottle. Barely translucent black brown color. Frothy tan head is two fingers high. Roasted malt nose hints at chocolate, Worcestershire and licorice. First sip yields notes of sweet roasted malt, cocoa, raisins and dark toast. Rich and flavorful with a touch of dark corn syrup. The 9% ABV is barely noticeable, but their is a warming alcohol prescence as the brew warms. An rae find and an outstanding example of the Baltic Prter style. Also, a tremendous value at $4.99 for a 500 ml bottle.
