KOMES PORTER reflects the history of brewing, referring to the 18th century tradition of brewing porters in the Baltic states. At their prime, Baltic porters represented one third of the market, which is the best evidence of their popularity. We offer you a well-balanced, dark, strong beer with a distinct flavour. Slow fermentation at low temperatures in open vats, coupled with long (at least 3 months) maturation have resulted in the beer’s character and complete, complex nature. The Porter’s bouquet matures further in the bottle. Time is on its side.

About as classic a Baltic porter as you can get, layers of rich chocolate and caramel, underlined by fig, black cherry, pumpernickel bread, and raisin, with hints of grass, walnutshell, roast, and coffee. A little more body would be nice, but otherwise a tasty pint.

Pours a deep brown colour with copper-ruby highlights. The head is quite big for such a high level of alcohol. Brown-beige coloured, frothy, almost creamy, like a latte, with good retention and some patches of lace. Lots of dark fruits in the nose with dates, raisins. Mild nuttiness with the roasted malt base. The taste has these darker fruits with the roasted malts and a nice finish of coffee, molasses and nuts. A decent dryness as well with the hops. All is nicely balanced and easy to drink.

Bottle from the LCBO (2017). Cloudy dark mahogany with a one finger khaki coloured head that fades quickly leaving sparse lace. Nose has coffee, dark chocolate, dark fruit, light vanilla, roasted nuts. molasses, and anise.Flavour follows with a light+ molasses sweetness and a medium dark chocolate and coffee bitterness. Mouth is medium+ and creamy with soft carbonation and a warming finish. Excellent. 9/4-/8+/4/17

Achtung Lecker!

Pour from a bottle at Craft Brewed. Pours a pitch black with light purple highlights and small beige head. Notes of tobacco, plum, black currant and roasted cacao nib. Smooth on the palate with dark fruit and Ethiopian coffee cherry notes. Medium body/carbonation. Lingering plum, blackberry and dark chocolate. Very traditional Baltic and well done. --- Beer merged from original tick of Komes Porter Bałtycki on 23 Jun 2018 at 00:45 - Score: 7

Wet dog, beef jerky, tobacco, kibble, smoke nose. Oh my that's rich! Cloudy brown, thick tan head, nice lace. Tobacco, toasted brown bread, smoke. There's an elusive subtle treacle and blueberry undercurrent that is wonderful. Raisin and prune finish. Full body, soft carbonation. Well damn if that isn't one of the best beers I've had in awhile! Exemplary!
