KOMES PORTER reflects the history of brewing, referring to the 18th century tradition of brewing porters in the Baltic states. At their prime, Baltic porters represented one third of the market, which is the best evidence of their popularity. We offer you a well-balanced, dark, strong beer with a distinct flavour. Slow fermentation at low temperatures in open vats, coupled with long (at least 3 months) maturation have resulted in the beer’s character and complete, complex nature. The Porter’s bouquet matures further in the bottle. Time is on its side.

Bottle. Pours a black color with a small off-white head. Has a roasted malty caramel and licorice aroma. Roasted malty caramel chocolate bitter flavor. Has a roasted malty caramel and licorice finish.

Bottle @ Novotel, Gdansk. Pours very dark brown with a brown head. Aroma of roasted malt, little coffee, dark chocolate, licorice, light wood. Flavor is light sweet, rich malty, caramel, chocolate, licorice, wood, light alcohol. Medium to full body, average carbonation, sweet finish with warming alcohol. 091117

500ml Bottle - Dark brown with orangey red tinges when held to the light. Plain chocolate, coffee and hints of fennel and liquorice in the slightly earthy aroma. Liquorice, coffee, plain chocolate and roasted malt all feature in the rich yet smooth and roasted tasted.

Bottle 0.5l at home, Vantaa. BBE 15.12.17. Colour is almost black with very small brownish head. Aromas and flavours: Chocolate, dark chocolate and roasted malts. Very soft and quite enjoyable. Drinkability very good.

One of these revivalist Baltic porters from Poland, this one aiming at historical accuracy rather than extension of the style into craft beer experiments. At GBF. Pale yellowish beige, thinnish head over a very dark mahogany brown, almost black beer. Aroma of roasted peanuts, caramel sauce, maple syrup, treacle, chestnut, dried prunes, honey. Sweetish onset, dried fruit, soft carbo, oily and resiny mouthfeel; very (hazel-)nutty malt core, toasty and bittersweet with a chocolatey edge, bitter finish with spicy and herbal hop bitterness as well as some roasted bitterness and warming, wodka-like alcohol. Top notch example of this often neglected style - nice to see one of its home countries, in full craft beer expansion now, has taken it upon itself to draw attention to it.

Flaska från Ebrowarium.pl drucken med ölföreningen. Smak och doft av choklad, kaffe, blåa bär, trä med toner av torv, läder och vanilj. Fin syrlighet och sötma, lagom sötma, fina aromer i god kombination, komplex och mycket god!

Bottle, courtesy of hajsman in EuroSwap, many thanks. Pours very dark brown. Aroma is lightly metallic, liquorice, coffee, dark chocolate. Body is medium, quite sweet, still a bit metallic. And boozy. Lively carbonation. Sweet palate of dried dark fruit. Good, but a bit unbalanced.
