Fire Rock Pale Ale is a copper-colored ale made from roasted malts and a selection of premium hops. With a Hawaiian style all its own, Fire Rock is smooth, yet bold in both flavor and aroma.

Bottle. Light brown, copper color. Average head with good lace. Aroma is a light grapefruit-skin citrus. Taste, is also a citrus type taste with an initial sweet that quickly changes to a bitter after taste.

Bottle at the hotel, Reykjavik. Aroma of malt, caramel, sweet fruits, hoppy notes. Flavour is moderate sweet with a moderate bittersweet finish. Very malty, not a great APA.

Notes from 5/9/2008. Two liter growler generously filled to the brim at the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema down south. Beautiful industrial-style flip-top growler. Thanks to ballewblake for sharing. Now sharing is a fuzzy word. Schedules got mixed up, Beer Mails were missed, & once I flipped it open, I didn't bother coming up for air much. We're all friends here right? :P Poured into my DFH pint glass, a large curdling head develops over a hazy, perfectly amber brew. Some activity underneath, but pretty still overall. Smell is a soft mix of toast, flour, margarine, salt, pepper, yeast, a faint amount of spinachy hops & a very minimal amount of zest. Very, very mild. The taste reminds me a lot of Butternuts Porkslap, but with more crispness & a cleaner finish. Also a good bit drier, which lends much to the drinkability. There's diacetyl in there, but unlike Porkslap, the hops here make more of an impact. A zesty bite that all but wipes out that slick feel, leaving just the sweeter side of it. The finish rides that sturdy hop bite along with a good mouthful of toastiness that fades within a couple breaths. Just a single step from being a really savory beer. Carbonation was on the level & made every gulp I took twice as large. The beer felt foamy & frothy sloshing around. The alcohol never made itself known during or after the 70 or so ounces. A little more condensed when cold then warm, it felt just a little too thick. ... Once I got near the end, I left half a pour to sit while I grabbed dinner. When warm, the beer became much more salty & acidic. Don't leave any stragglers. Drink it all up like a good boy. :)
