0.3 l bottle from ’AH’ (Groesbeek), best before November 2017. Clear, golden amber with a medium large, frothy, almost stable, white head. Very faint, sweetish-malty and a bit floral aroma of honey, straw and some caramel. Moderately sweet, malty and slightly floral taste of honey, grains, some caramel and a touch of straw, followed by a short, medium bitter, slightly grassy and a little spicy finish. Medium to full body, slightly oily and moderately effervescent mouthfeel, soft carbonation. Not bad, actually more Bock-like than the other Dutch Lenteboks I’ve had so far. Overall not very impressive, but given my low expectations quite enjoyable.

Bottle shared thanks to my brother. Clear golden with bright white head. Light dry malts, some grass and herbs, honey, light syrup, soft peach. It’s not as sweet as I expected with a short dry bitter finish. Medium bodied with fizzy carbonation and some alcohol in the finish. Weirdly alcoholic but not horrible.

When Grolsch started with their Mei/Lentebok in 1992 it was actually pretty good, very much German style. Then in the early 2000’s they thought it necessary to improve the recipe, meaning they made it as sticky sweet at their autumnal counterpart. I just tried the 2016 version and it seems they’ve gone back to the old recipe: Bottle. Clear deep golden color. Off white head. Aroma’s: wort, grain, sweet. Retronasal: moderate sweet, wort. Flavor is moderate malty sweet, light fruit, hint of bitterness. Medium bodied. Finishes light to moderate bitter. A pleasant surprise.

Tallboy can at Schipol. Malty nose, honey, biscuits, some citrus. Drcent malt flavor, bread, not near as sweet and gross as the old recipe. Can taste the Citra hops. Prickly, lightly bitter finish. Not bad.
