Brekle’s Brown has a coppery brown color and unusual depth of flavor with hints of citrus which makes for richness and complexity without heaviness. The classic, all-malt, single-hop American brown ale.
Trivia: in 1871 brewer Gottlieb Brekle arrived in San Francisco from Germany. He purchased an old beer-and-billiards saloon near Russian Hill and transformed it into the little craft brewery that — twenty-five years later — would be renamed Anchor.

12 fl oz bottle from Beer Supreme, Oldenburg, 2,69 €. A nice red brown in the glass, one finger frothy beige head. Fresh hopy on the nose with malt in the background. Taste starts decent hopy with roasted malt, some orange sourness in the background row. Getting dry with roasted malt in the second part.

Bottle at home random super market grab. Fine clearish brown pour smaller head. Nose is light caramel, malt and brown sugar. Tastes of those things but with some red fruit thrown in. Medium carbonation and bodied. Sweet finish.

Light beige creamy head soon left a blob on a dark brown thick looking body. Malty aroma with brown sugar, plum & dark spirits. Medium body feel on the palate quite clean & prickly on the aft. Very malty & not too sweet, which is different to many UK Brown Ale’s, with stewed dark fruits, plum & faint hints of sugar.

Bottle from Biernavigatie, BB 12-2017, large sample. Clear brown color, big rocky head. Aroma of biscuit, chocolate, dark fruit. Soft fruity bitterness, caramelly sweetness. Easy drinkable, like an american bock. Lots of flavor. Very good sessionable stuff.
