The Rothaus Pils Tannenzäpfle has existed since 1956—so for almost 60 years. Its unusual name is embodied on the labels of the 0.33 l bottles. The original Tannenzäpfle labels depicted spruce branches accompanied by pinecones. These pinecones are what gave this beer its name. But there’s one other characteristic that makes the Tannenzäpfle special; it was the first Rothaus beer to emerge with a label depicting “Biergit”, the Black Forest girl holding two glasses of beer. Today, “Biergit” is the defining symbol for all beers made by the Rothaus Brewery.

Notes from 10/26/17 On tap at Covenhoven in BK. Fat goblet pour. It's their standard glass. Pale, clear, straw body with a lingering, Lacy, shelve-y head. Smell is classic Euro malts & pepper, hops. Taste toasty, moderately bitter, tight/dry body that ends in a moderate, carbonic spritz. Simple, yet well made. Drank most if this before I realized & had to grab another. Good, quenching stuff.

Clear pale gold with a frothy white head and a soft cereal aroma. Clean and crisp, proper thirst quenching with grassy bitterness and a hint of fruit.

En copa pilsen, color amarillo dorado claro, limpia y cristalina, corona de espuma blanca de buena retención. Ligero aroma a grano. En boca es ligera, algo aguada, refrescante, algo dulce y moderadamente amarga, equilibrada, notas de malta, cereal, citricos...normalita

Slightly paler than golden, almost perfectly clear. Medium sized white head, shows pretty good persistence and nice lacing. Average intensity in the aroma: light hay, clean lemonish notes, delicate grassy and floral hops. Not especially rich but nicely fresh and well defined. Taste shows a delicate malty base with notes of white bread and cereals, clean lemonish hints, floral and lighter grassy hops. As for aroma: quite simple, but excellent in terms of definition and balance and also nicely fresh. Sweetness and bitterness are both mild. Clean aftertaste. Quite light in body with light to medium, very light bubbled carbonation; very quaffable. Overall, a very good example of the tidiness and drinkability that i expect to find in a german pils.
