The Rothaus Pils Tannenzäpfle has existed since 1956—so for almost 60 years. Its unusual name is embodied on the labels of the 0.33 l bottles. The original Tannenzäpfle labels depicted spruce branches accompanied by pinecones. These pinecones are what gave this beer its name. But there’s one other characteristic that makes the Tannenzäpfle special; it was the first Rothaus beer to emerge with a label depicting “Biergit”, the Black Forest girl holding two glasses of beer. Today, “Biergit” is the defining symbol for all beers made by the Rothaus Brewery.

16 oz. draft. Clear light gold color with a small white head and good retention. Very light aroma. Sweet malt flavor with only a hint of sulfur skunk. Medium-light body and very low, soft carbonation. Not bitter. Decent.

Bottle from Netto City in the small town of Allensbach. Golden with very little head. From bottle at Oktoberfest in Kristiansund 21.10.23. Clear golden. Dense and persistent foamy white head and lacing. Fine aroma and taste of pilsner malt, grains and grassy hops. A very good German style pilsner.

Keg 5l, opened at a bbq over open fire. Reindeer in the woods, not on the bbq. Clear golden. Sweet, grainy, dusty starch. Bit flat (though probably that is just the keg), nice bitterness that cuts through the sweetness, soft and full.
