A collaboration between Bret & Eric Kuhnhenn and Erik Harms of Dragonmead, this beer truly defies categorization. This beer is not for the hopheads - this is an intense malt-bomb. Heathen starts off similar to a traditional German Doppelbock, then goes to 11... 12.5 actually. Rich malt notes persist with flavors and aromas reminiscent of candied fruits, Christmastime spices, and a touch of smokiness. Very little bitterness throughout with flavors that persist long after the swallow. If Doppelbock was known as "liquid bread," this Triple Bock is more like "Liquid Sandwich."

2011 version bottle thx to joes. Dark red to black colour with no head. Smells very malty, very sweet, sugary. Tastes very malty, red fruits, grapes, a bit wine like. Full, silky body, low carbo. Edit: drinking this again, taste a lot more liquorice then last time.

Bottle shared by Paul at the Copenhagen Beer Celebration 2012. Pours a clear, intriguing ruby with a faint, ringy, off-white head. Tons of ripe fruits, toffee and caramel on the nose with light spices. Monstrously sweet flavor, all caramel and ripe fruits, berries, toasted sugars, modest alcohol. Full bodied and chewy with fine carbonation. Warm finish with tons of ripe, juicy and semi-dark fruits, sticky caramel, brown sugar, a bit of persistent heat at the end. A major sipper. Super rich in character without being overly cloying. Pretty great stuff.

Bottle from Ølbutikken. It pours deep amber/brown, with an off-white head. The nose is sweet, alcohol warmth, spice, caramel, brown bread, toast and dark fruit. The taste is rather sweet, caramel, alcohol warmth, chocolate, syrupy, brown bread, toast, spice and dark fruit (raisin, currant and fig), with a dry, boozy finish. Medium-full body, fine carbonation and sticky mouth-feel. Not normally my sort of thing, but still a good beer.

Bottle 35,5 cl. Pours a clear reddish amber with a tiny, tiny off-white head, that dissipates in no time. Very sweet caramellish liqueur-like aroma. Rich, full body, low carbonation, nuts, peanuts and caramel, overripe fruit with a warming alcohol finish. Enjoyable and very, very rich. 030612
