Bottle during RBWG. Pours a dark brown with small beige head. The aroma is toasted malts and coffee. Medium mouth with light roast, cocoa, and dark chocolate, boozy finish, good.

10.5% AVB version poured up on tap at the brewpub where it exhibits a deep dark body that has dark mahogany edges and supports a thin tan head. The aroma offers up dark roasted malts, chocolate, chocolate malt balls and then a thin layer of yum. The taste starts bold with firm dark roasted malts to burnt and coffee and then it quickly slides into pleasing chocolate goodness and a thin sweet molasses sensation. Yum. To midway in the background lurks faint blueberry like sweet dark fruity esters that harken back to old school Russian Imperial Stouts, nice. Solid beast of a beer that makes for a terrific sipper.

Sampled draught as part of a flight at the brewpub on January 19, 2014.Black color, some tiny clear red notes in the bottom towards the table. Very small teal head. Sweet, malty, roasted, very nice intoxicating taste. Smooth mouthfeel, medium bitterness. Sweet, malty, roasted scent.

Bottle at RBWg 2013 Grand Tasting. Pours thick black with a fine, tan foam head. Dark berries in the nose, some burnt wood. Medium to big sweet flavor, sugary dark bread, bit of earth, full bodied with fine carbonation. Sweet finish, just some dark malts, dark fruits, light tang, some earthy bitterness. Not bad.
