What does it mean? Yes, what indeed does it all mean. Meaning of course is elusive and illusive. It can’t or shouldn’t be found on this bottle. Should it? Yet what if it was? Would you begin to look for pearls of wisdom or life direction on a beer label? Perhaps it’s been there all along. Since meaning is a mere illusion, perhaps we shouldn’t let it have any influence on our destiny. This particular beer refused to succumb to the illusion of meaning or allow capricious parameters to have any influence on its own fermented fate. Are we even asking the right question? Are you feeling frustrated in the emptiness? If so, that could be because someone got to this beer before you, and thus there’s a reason for that emptiness. It’s empty. And if so, perhaps there indeed is not any meaning for you here after all.

Style over Substance, or Substance over the scriptures of Style? The latter, thank you very much. Twice.

Sampled @ Copenhagen Beer Festival 2010. Dark brown body with a beige head. Aroma is roasted malt and fruity hops. Flavor is sweet, roasted malt with distinct fruit and a nice bitter finish. A bit crossover in style, and I enjoyed this a lot.

Bottle batch 352 Pours out dark brown topped with a nice sandy head. Aroma was of pit fruit, molasses, dark roast malts, and a little hop. Taste was much as the aroma plenty sweetness of pit fruit and some caramel. This was a tasty brew for sure.

Bottle: Literally pitch black, medium-sized fluffy tanned head with a good lacework; not too dry fruity-roasty nose, aromatic hops in the background; soft and medium bodied, moderate sweet-bitter flavour; chocolate, fruits and hops in the slightly lingering bitter-sweet finish. A goody.......

Bottle, 12C. Pours black with a coat of tan head. Smells of pine and grapefruit with hints of roasted malt. Oily mouthfeel. Mildly sweet and roasty with soy sauce, port and five spice (mainly Sichaun pepper) underneath bigish citrus bitterness. Dry finish is due to roast as much as hops. Reminded me of Sinha (Lion) Stout quite a lot (of Belgian beers not at all). I was expecting this to be dissonant verging on cacophonous but it’s nowhere near that line. Good and thoroughly quaffable. [3.8] Bottle, a fortnight shy of bb date erroneously printed as brewed on date. Very dark brown, persistent small beige head. Aroma: grapefruit, kumquat, nectarine, pine, roasted malt, five spice, soy sauce. Sweet, bitter and a little salty. Not a lot of roast. Less citrus than before, but still like an aromatic hoppy foreign stout. Mellower but no less interesting. Still seems to be available and I won’t hurry in drinking it should I get some.

[330ml bottle bought direct through brewery website] Pours black with ruby hints and a moderate, frothy tan head. Beautifully frothy mouthfeel. Usual Brewdog aromas of pine and citrus, but weaker than normal and with some added chocolate. Tastes of cola and smoke at first, then burnt bitterness and some melted plastic. Sticky yet dry at the same time. Some sweet chocolate and pine does fight its way through in the end, followed by a lingering tingling peppery spice on the tongue, but the burnt taste is really a bit over the top. Well short of being the brewery’s best.

Pours dark brown, off-white head. Aroma, nice hoppy floral citrus nose, dark roasted malts. Flavors, chocolate malts, bready and roast along with a nice bitter mouthfeel, citrus hops. There is definitely something Stone in this beer that add a great dimension to teh style, bordering an DIPA.
