Mutton Buster is a full-flavored brown ale that's relatively tame, but fun to ride. Out of the chute, there's a rich, roasted, nutty sweetness of cocoa and malt on the nose with a mild kick of earthy, hop bitterness that won't bust your chops. Mutton Buster is dark in color, complex malt flavors and sessionable for any time of year.

Draft pour pint at Eureka! Pours a thick, muddy copper brown with a ton of head and lacing. Soft nutty malt aroma. Flavor is a spiced nutty malt, a bit of brown sugar like character. Smooth and rich chocolate. Pleasant brown ale here. Would love to try the coffee version, though I feel like I pick up a hint of coffee roast in the regular anyway. Refreshing for a brown. Not completely full in flavor, but not an issue. Good beer overall.

12 oz bottle at the Bourbon house in SLC. Clear dark brown with aroma of roasted malt. Medium body, roasted malt taste. Finishes clean. Unexceptional brown ale.

Can: A pour the color of weak coffee, topped with a creamy khaki head. Nutty, earthy, coffee, and roasted malt aromas… a fairly strong nose. Coffee up front, slightly sweet, nutty and earthy in the tail. A balance of roast and bittersweet. Moderate body, good finish. I don’t see why the ratings are so low… this is better than a lot of the brown ales out there.

Can from Brewforia. Pours dark copper with a beige head. Aroma is chocolate and nuts. Med body or so. Flavor is chocolate, earthy, almost like coffee in effect. Nuts are probably coming over like coffee for me. The malt is rather roasty. Not usually a brown ale fan, but there’s enough bitter in the finish to make it ok.

Pours amber with some creamy head. Nose is nutty, bread crust, caramel, dusty, dried malt. Flavor is malty, sweet, brown sugar, cracker, bread. Dry finish. Solid for the style.

Kind of bland brown ale, watery mouthfeel. Looks good, with nice creamy beige head on brown body. taste is sweet, but short, nothing lasts to remember it by. Easy to drink, but so is water. Re-rate 11/9/2015. I have a better grasp on the style now, and this is pretty good. Learning new things every day....
