This is a higher alcohol version of the British Mackeson Stout. Formerly brewed in the United States by Boston Beer Co. at their Cincinnati location (the old Hudepohl brewery). Presently brewed at the Carib Brewery in Trinidad (and St. Kitts).

This is the version that is commonly exported to South East Asia

Like every other hard-worker that you know, you consider Friday to be the best day of the week because at the end of it is a reward for five days of traffic, deadlines and trying to exceed your bosses’ expectations. Besides looking forward to two days without an alarm, an after-work ‘lime’ is when you permit yourself to indulge in something you’ve had a hankering for all week – It’s dark, on the brink of sweetness and one is definitely not enough. With a designated driver on duty, you place your first order for a Mackeson. It’s the perfect warm-up for everything that the rest of the night has to offer. It never disappoints and ensures that you don’t either.

This instantly satisfying, full-bodied milk stout is perfect for a generation that thrives on immediate and long-lasting gratification in their personal, professional and pleasurable pursuits. Its roasted malt aroma is a superb opener for its dark, creamy, semi-sweet goodness that finishes with a hint of a coffee-like flavour.

Medium brown head. Opaque black body. Sugary metallic caramel pudding aroma with chocolate notes. Sweet-dryish milky chocolatey taste with earthy notes. Mid-bodied. Very mild and smooth mouthfeel. Dryish roasty chocolatey aftertaste with coffee and caramel notes. Some funky character to it, too. Nice and drinkable, and very smooth. Interesting. (0.275l bottle, Wellcome, Lohas Park, Hong Kong.)

Bottle at home in Barbados. Pours to form a nice looking drink, yellow tan head. Good smokey aroma. Nice balance of sweet and bitter, some coffee and mocha. Good beer, better than I had hoped. Getting a stock in the fridge

Apparently this stuff was brewed in Trinidad; I found it in Hong Kong. And now I read it’s supposed to be a Boston brew. Whatever - pours very black with good head, and a soft red aura to it. Aroma of sugar and coffee-barley, but in a smooth fake way. Flavour is heavy on the coffee with sugar and a slightly watery finish. About what I expected of a macro stout.

This is for the Carib/St. Kitts version. Pour is dark with a deep head. Aroma is full and of roasted malts, light molasses, some milky notes, chocolate, and mild booze. Flavor is much of the same with the roasted malts a significant player but not the nearly burnt notes I picked up from Guinness FE. Smooth and relaxing to drink. While it was easier to find Guinness FE in St. Maarten, the Mackeson was a more enjoyable beach drinking stout.

Bottle from WFM Charlottesville Pours black with a thin dark brown head that dissipates to nothing quickly. Strong roasted malt aroma with green apple, tobacco and vanilla notes. Very sweet taste. Creamy feel. Interesting.
