Pirate bomb is our beer Prairie Bomb! aged in rum casks. The flavor from the casks helps impart more vanilla and coconut flavors to the beer while helping to add more body and smoothness to the already explosive and expressive flavors of Bomb!

Bottle. A- Chilies, chocolate fudge, coconut, vanilla, brownies. A- Black color, black liquid, brown head. T- Chilies, fudge, espresso, coconut, vanilla, rum, P- Full body, average texture, average carbonation, complex finish. O- Yum. The rum barrel aging did some nice things for this beer. The chilies seem to stand out more and the cocoa gives off a more fudge like taste. Surprisingly not boozy. Maybe the best of the Bomb! variants. Tasty as hell.

12oz bottle at Eat Bar pours an oily black with just the faintest tan head. The appearance is easily the worst part of this beer. The nose is chock full with toasted marshmellow, light booze, chocolate, caramel, lots of anise and licorice, vanilla bean, some burnt coconut, mild spices like pepper and cinnamon. Flavor follows, it’s like drinking a S’mores but not in a cloying way. Sure there is some caramel sweetness, but the vanilla feels very natural and does not elevate the sweetness you sense, licorice and molasses, malt, some toast, a little cane sugar, plenty of pepper and cinnamon. Finishes oily, lightly sticky too but super smooth and crazy drinkable at 14%.

12 ounce bottle into snifter, bottled on 2/18/2016. Pours dense pitch black color with a minimal foamy tan head that reduces to a thin ring of lace pretty quickly. Minimal spotty lacing clings to the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of huge dark chocolate, cocoa, dark roasted coffee, fudge, toffee, vanilla, molasses, cinnamon, clove, rum, oak, toasted coconut, chili pepper, light dark fruit/char, and roast/oak earthiness. Incredible aromas with fantastic complexity and balance of dark/roasted malt, coffee/vanilla/pepper spice, and rum barrel notes; with great strength. Taste of huge dark chocolate, cocoa, dark roasted coffee, fudge, toffee, vanilla, molasses, cinnamon, clove, rum, oak, toasted coconut, chili pepper, light dark fruit/char, and roast/oak earthiness. Light-moderate roast/char bitterness and rum/oak/pepper spiciness on the finish; with lingering notes of dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, fudge, toffee, vanilla, molasses, cinnamon, clove, rum, oak, toasted coconut, chili pepper, light dark fruit/char, and roast/oak earthiness on the finish for a while. Incredible complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roasted malt, coffee/vanilla/pepper spice, and rum barrel flavors; with a fantastic roasted bitter/sweet and oak/pepper spiciness balance with zero cloying sweetness after the finish. Light-moderate dryness from bitter/spiciness as well. Light carbonation and very full bodied; with a very creamy/silky/slick, and fairly sticky/chalky balanced mouthfeel that is awesome. Alcohol is well hidden with a small warmth lingering after the finish; with some light pepper heat as well. Overall this is a mind blowing barrel aged spiced stout! All around insane complexity, robustness, and balance dark/roasted malt, coffee/vanilla/pepper spice, and rum barrel flavors; and very smooth and dangerously easy to sip on for the huge ABV. A world class offering for sure.

Shared 12 oz. bottle. Pours almost black with a short-lasting tan head. Viscous. Aroma of dark roasted malt, rum, vanilla, chocolate and spices. Taste is roasted malt, chocolate, vanilla, spices, oak and rum. Has a fairly sweet finish. It’s good, but I prefer Bomb! to this.

Bottle thanks to Casey. Pours a cloudy brown with medium beige head leaving spotty lacing. The aroma is strong rum, vanilla, coconut, roast. Medium mouth, similar flavors to nose, nice boozy finish, really enjoyed this.

10.04.2015, 0,35l bottle @ home:
Small light brown creamy mediumlasting head. Aroma is slightly dry boozy, minerals, oak, dark rum, grass, espresso, dark malts, chili, chocolate, vanilla, dark sugar. Taste is mild and slightly dry, minerals, oak, dark rum, chili, espresso, grass, dark malts, chocolate, caramel, licorice, dark sugar. Medium bitterness, slightly dry mouthfeel. Nice one, but the regular one is way better. But it’s just as mild / balanced and easy drinking as the regular one.
