Bottle at home in London - picked up from the brewery. Pours deep, black brown with a staunch, lasting tan cream head. The nose holds chocolate cake, burnt cereal, well roasted malts and suggestions of dark fruits. Medium to heavy sweet with lots of rich, layered chocolate character, understated roasted malts, ripe cherries, raisins, prunes mild scorched earth bitterness, toasted marshmallows. Full bodied with fine to average, velvety carbonation. Lightly warming on the finish (though not as warm as you might expect for the ABV), with continuing rich, dark malts, more raisins, some licorice, chocolate cake with gooey frosting, dark bread, faint bittersweet cocoa. Just beautifully balanced and obscenely drinkable for the strength. Partizan nails another big stout.

Bottle from the brewery and drunk at home on a lazy Sunday afternoon. this is just the FES brewed slightly differently surely? But I’ll play ball and rate it. This version is 8.2%. Black beer with lasting beige head. It’s still a lovely beer. The alcohol kick is certainly still there. I mean it’s big bold and has lovely chocolate cake elements to it. Some spicy alcohol. Decent.

Bottle from Partizan. Poured a dark mahogany with a frothy tan head. The aroma is big roasted malt with a little dark chocolate, dry yeast and a hint of coffee. The flavour is medium to strong bitter with a smooth rich alcoholic liqourice palate. Medium to full bodied with flat carbonation. Partizan need to brew more stouts. Really liked this and the alcohol doesn’t dominate.

Bottle at the brewery. It pours black with a medium light tan head. The nose is bitter-sweet, light soy sauce, toast, earth, roasted malt, mild chocolate and salted liquorice. The taste is rich roast, coffee grinds, cocoa, earth, light bitterness, light alcohol, liquorice, treacle and a touch of soy sauce with a smooth, dry finish. Medium+ body and fine carbonation. Rich, balanced and really rather drinkable. As good as the BA version IMO.

Bottle at the brewery, 28/12/13. Light black with a moderate tan head that retains well. Nose is light rubber, lactic ring, dark berry fruit, earthy cocoa, hint of coffee. Taste comprises cocoa powder, tangy berry fruits, leather sofa, little dirt and earth. Medium bodied, prickly carbonation, dry finale. Solid enough impy, easy drinking for the style and ABV, a little over carbed for my liking as per the BA version.
