Teased from the loam by the kiss of the Sun. Mom's Strawberry Rhubarb delights are the happy memories of childhood. Diploma Master Brewer Dan employed juicy sweet Strawberries to take the barbaric wild tart fermentation of rhubarb. Escaped from the far corners of neighboring yards, local rhubarb was incorporated into the wild sour fermentation to create this drinkable dream. Bright sour and effervescent. Toast chilled cold to Bright skies, fireflies, bare feet and rhubarb pies!

750ml bottle. I rated this one on tap, but am going to rate it now because I probably won’t have that uploaded until 2014 some time. Very attractive thick red, hint of orange in there. Steady, patchy off-white head. The aroma is intensely sweet, deserty...big fruit tones..not really beerlike at all. Doesn’t really taste like a beer when it comes down to it, all out strawberry on top of some earthy, tart rhubarb. Easy drinking, very pie like, another great addition to the NG fruit beer family. Raises the bar substantially for Strawberry beers, I’ve never had one this pronounced. Excellent beverage.

750 mL bottle brought back by my friend Nadjeeb from Wisconsin and shared with two other friends Mika and RBer Alraomon who helped me move. I thought this would be worthy to share with friends and to be the very first beer opened at my new apartment. Pours a hazy rust color with a medium sized frothy off-white head. Good head retention. Aroma of tart fruits, earth, grape, berries. The taste is grapes, rhubarb, berries, pale bready malts. Medium bodied and quite refreshing, which is exactly what we needed.

And it just happens to be my 200th fruit beer. Cool!

New Glarus are the masters of the fruit beer, but that said, I have to say this one is something of a disappointment. Pours a reddish-brown with good-sized head. Sour strawberry aroma. Flavor is of fresh strawberries, tempered by a sour rhubarb. Maybe it’s just the flavor combination, but this one doesn’t work for me and I’ve been a fan of Serendipity and pretty much every other NG fruit beer I’ve tried.

Full disclosure: I fucking LOVE rhubarb, and strawberry rhubarb pie is probably my favorite dessert of all time, so I am predisposed to love this beer - pours a medium red with a light haze and a thick, soapy lace - nose of sweet, fresh strawberry character, along with a balancing acidity, both from the rhubarb and the fermentation - there is also a mild, somewhat wild kind of funk to it - very fresh, summery aroma that showcases the fruit well - low carbonation, but very full in the mouth - bracing acid up front is followed by an explosion of sweet strawberry on the palate - mild funkiness follows, finishing with the light tang of the rhubarb and some closing acidity (lactic, even a touch acetic) that lingers on the palate - I quite like this, but again, I had a bias coming in - mmmm.
