Belgians say, “Op uw gezondheid’” when toasting, but you don’t have to speak Flemish to appreciate the bold, complex flavors of fig dipped in dark chocolate, ripe fruit and toffee in this immense Ale. Op uw gezondheid!

On tap at PIB, pours a hazy dark amber with a small off-white head. Aroma of dry dark fruits, a little caramel, and toasted malt. Flavour brings out caramel malts, Belgian yeast, and dried dark fruit. Very dry, but also somehow a bit sweet. Balanced well, but not the most complex beer. Solid dark Belgian strong, but nothing outstanding.

Tap at pFriem, Hood River, 24/05/13. Clear chestnut brown with a beige head, good lacing follows. Nose is dark toffee, figs, dates, pitted fruit, light wood and spice. Taste comprises dark fruits, yeast, figgy pudding, dark toffee, light brown sugar consist, touch of booze. Full bodied with fine carbonation, light boozey finish. Solid enough strong Belgian offering, the alcohol is well integrated but not enough depth or complexity to make it a great.
