A belgian-style barleywine? We know, the monks would turn around in the grave. But our Oracle is the perfect union of two historical styles as the belgian quadrupels and the english barleywines. Full in body, this copper strong ale releases aromas of caramel, dark & dried fruits and sweet malts, balanced by noble european hops.

Bottle. Hazy deep copper liquid with small off-white head. Aroma of raw sugar, bread, dried fruit, red berries and toffee. Taste is light to medium sweet and light bitter with notes of toffee, dried fruit and sweet booze. Medium to full bodied with low to medium carbonation. Pretty good.

Bottle @ Barely Legal Tasting Room . Pours brown, with an amber glow. Steady and thick foam, but small . Smell is sweet grain ( intense ) , A bitter aspect . Taste is grainy, sweet, copper, leaves . Caramel touch, some earthy aspects . Very nice, and comparable to some of my favourite WP’s , but less intense ( also less alcohol ) . Still its 10 % , so it should be more intense, especially cause what you do taste , tastes very nice ! Nice mouthfeel, perfect carbo . Easy drinkable - as to be expected from Roberto

Bottle sample at my 5555th rating tasting at Sar HaMashkaot Ramat Gan. Thanks Tom L. Murky dark brown with a bubbly beige head. Aroma of caramel, dark fruits, a bit of licorice, alcohol and a spicy note. Sweet flavor, caramelly, with dark fruits, some spiciness and alcohol. Medium-bodied, a bit over-carbonated.

Bottle @ home. Black color, full sized beige head that lasts for quite a long time. Smell and taste malts, sweetness, overripe fruits. A bit too sweet perhaps. Lively carbonation, ok body. Hmm imo it’s not a real good barley wine. Drinkable, but I wouldn’t recommend it.

33cl Bottle picked up at De Bierboom (Brugge) about a year ago: opened at home on 3rd March 2014. Poured into a Westmalle challice. The bottle had been in my fridge for over a month but it still gushed out when opened, with some hitting the table cloth before I got it over the glass. Once settled I had a good looking chalice of deep ruby red/brown with a tanned foaming head on top. The nose a lovely brown sugared infused maltiness with a dark hedgerow fruit hint, sweet, yet earthy. Rich, heavy and alcoholic: this is one great beer. Certainly malty and dark fruit sweet in nature, it has a smooth and almost creamy body feel, velvet is a good word to use: this is a velvet brew. The earthiness mentioned in the smell also appears in the taste and this helps to balance the malty molasses that try to take over the taste completely. I love these sort of brews: too sweet for their own good at times, but whether it’s a Barley Wine or a Quad, or whatever, it’s a damn good beer.
