Dark golden colour with no head. Aroma and flavour have typical woody dryness and a light acidity balanced out with a sweeter note.

05-11-18 // 750ml bottle shared. Dusty looking bottle, might be even as old as the label suggest. Clear dark golden. White head. Lovely geuze like nose. Then a heavy candi and caramelized sugar. Weird and lovely both because its so different. Very hard to find a suitable rating without taking in consideration that this style is supposed to taste like this.

Tap at BXL festival. Murky light brown with a few bubbles. Sugary, apple juice, light dank hay, sweet malts, apricot, quite herbal. Over medium sweet, light bitter and very light sour. Medium bodied with low carbonation. Quite nice actually.

(375ml 2009-label bottle from Mikkeller Webshop) Pours a clear copper colour with a small smattering of whitish bubbles, no lace. Aroma of caramel apples, brown sugar, wood, tart citrusy underpinnings, moderately high funk, rather sweet overall. Flavour is pretty sweet, even for style, quite a lot of brown sugar, sweet tea, cola-like, red baking apple, sweet-sour candied citrus, wood, earthy funk. Finish and aftertaste remain pretty sweet, only light drying from the wood. Medium bodied with quite soft sparkling carb. Faro is weird, I feel, and this is no different. Feels kind of heavy on the brown sugar, but it’s nice enough for lambic soda anyway.

Well-kept 2009 edition, sampled winter 2016. Not always the best experience with long time aging of Faro but this one made it really fine. Slightly unclear golden body with almost no head at all. Nice mature aroma with smooth funk, wood and a hint of brown sugar. Flavor is sweet, but not too sweet, in fine balance with the acidity. Quite funky flavor for a Faro with just a hint of caramel, brown sugar and smooth fruity acidity. Fine balanced body and long lasting, very pleasant aftertaste that almost doesn’t feel sweet at all. Very pleasant one.
