Bottle courtesy of ken1. Clear golden with a white head. Aroma is sweet, malty, ginger and fruity. Flavor is medium and light bitter. Dry and light bitter finish. A bit thin. 180513

This beer pours a clear yellowish-amber color with a medium off-white head that fizzes away quickly to an outer ring. Spotty lacing on the glass. Fruity aroma with some malt in the background. Light-bodied with flavors of citrus, sweet spice and malt. The finish is akin to a grapefruit-spiked ginger ale. Average all around.

Aroma: The nose is gingery, with some grapefruit/citrus rind type notes
Appearance: This beer pours a clear yellowish color with minimal head and lace
Flavor: The taste is ginger spice as well, with some light sweetness and bitterness to it
Palate: The body of this brew is fairly light and a little watery, and it has a soft feel to it
Overall Impression: Another pretty unexciting one from Shiner. This is not a terrible beer, but besides the ginger, which doesn't add that much, there isn't much going on here.

$3 bottle, served at Standard Market. I’d put this one down as a good summer shandy. Under the cap, I get just a whiff of grapefruit that could’ve come from the hop bill of some American Pale Ale (I had a taster of Sixpoint Resin for comparision, but they’re nothing a like). Beer is slightly muddy brown complexion, but pretty cleanly filtered. Grapefruit taste is a bit stronger,. Mild beer base makes this more like a shandy, letting the slight tartness stand out. Still, by blending with a fruit that’s similar to certain hop profiles, we get something better than the standard lemonade-weakened shandy.

The Pug, DC tap: Pours a weird orange color with almost no head. Aroma is grapefruit and sugar. Taste is kind of sour and is full of grapefruit juice. I was really confused by this beer throughout drinking it. I wasn’t sure what was really going on. I guess it didn’t hurt that I was a bit drunk. It also was ok that I order a Natty Boh right after this. If I never taste anything like this again, then I will be pretty happy.

Bottle @ home. Clear, a bit darkish orange appearance with a disappearing, off-white head. Ginger, orange dental fluid, spicy, tropical fruity, off putting aroma. Rich ginger, grapefruit, Squirt soda, spicy, tart fruity flavor. Shitty.

12 ounce bottle from Whole Foods Market, Charlottesville, VA, opened 6/13/11. Pours a pale hazy straw color with a thin head that fades almost immediately. The aroma is grapefruit dominated with notes of ginger and sawdust. The taste is grapefruit, ginger and pale malts. Thin and watery. This is closer to soda than beer.
