Bottle. Pours black with a dark brown head, but almost none of it. Aroma is cognac, grape skin, caramel, dried dark fruit. Body is heavy and sweet, also bitter, boozy and strong but almost flat. Lots of wood, but not so much else. A bit one-dimensional.

Bottle. Dark brown color with no head. Aroma is aromatic booze, grape skin, chocolate, dark fruits. Taste is the same. Oily mouthfeel with low carbonation. Interesting, but a bit too boozy and woody, and despite the fullness of the wood, kinda empty.

Bottle courtesy of John, shared at Merton Beer Festival, cheers John, picked up at Jacks, Goring on Thames, Oxon, Friday 24th February Oily texture, shark eye black, bitter and roasty. Meaty aroma, really meaty, meaty and stock in the mouth, thick in the mouth, flavour lingers forever, cognac comes through with some heat, oily legs trail down the glass. Lovely. A7 A4 T8 P4 Ov15 3.8

Bottle shared thanks to RandomStrangerNL. Black with a dark beige ring. Sweet berries, dark coffee, some vanilla, light horse poop, quite earthy, oxidized notes, port wine, licorice, tar. Quite sweet, medium bitter and light sour. Full bodied. Good stuff but the finish has this weird burning cow dung to it unfortunately.

Cremig malziger, etwas oxidierter Antrunk. Holzig, wenig herb, erstaunlich süffig. Später etwas alkoholisch, geringe Würzigkeit. Insgesamt eher schwach. 9/7/8/7/7/7

(Bottle) Pitch black colour with dense, dark brown head. Malty, roasted nose with notes of strong black coffee, cacao, liquorice, treacle, tar, asphalt, black rye bread, oak wood and a touch of cognac. Malty, roasted taste with strong black coffee, cacao, dark chocolate, liquorice, sweet soy sauce, oak wood, cognac and a warming finish with some alcohol, a generous coffee bitterness and a touch of cognac. Full body, quite sweet. Thick and oily texture. Hardly subtle, but very tasty and fairly well balanced (considering it carries a certain punch). Excellent beer!
