(Undated Nøgne Ø 250ml bottle from Mikkeller and Friends) Pours inky black with a few tiny pale brown bubbles and no lace. Needs some air to open up. Aroma of chocolate sauce, molasses, dark fruit vinousness, cognac, liquorice, light oxidation, oak and smoky char. Palate is intensely concentrated with notes of dark fruit, cognac, chocolate, dark malt, toffee, liquorice, vanilla, lots of wood. Quite sweet at first, finish is a bit drier though with charred, smoky wood and ash, brandy heat, roast cacao and vanilla prominent. Bit of burn on the aftertaste despite at least a decent bit of age on the bottle. Thick and viscous with almost no carbonation. As you’d expect from George, this is really rich and intense stuff. Even 250ml is almost a challenge to drink. Not sure this is quite as good as the regular or bourbon for me, but I think it is also a bit more aged.

Undated small bottle brewed/bottled at Nogne O, purchased quite a while ago (Summer 2013?) and finally drunk on 9/12/15.
Pouring from a great height to try to get some head, I do succeed in coaxing out a charred-tan head that is half a finger in height and steadily recedes to a ring. Seems pretty opaque even after sitting in a fridge for two years and pouring very carefully to avoid getting the sediment in it.
Chocolate, peanuts, soy, vanilla and a bit of candied plum. Deep char notes but without the usual aggressive accompanying roast/coffee/vinousness. Pretty dull, I’ve gotta say, and it dosent make me all that excited for the flavor, but here’s hoping...
Sweet, of course, and rich, with a coating, velvety, borderline syrupy texture full of char, ash, soy, peanut skin and beans. Good lord this stuff is thick and rich. Yet somehow, it’s not a complete mess and there is a fair amount of acidity attempting to balance. Whether it actually does so is a point of contention (it dosent) and while I don’t mind the tobacco and roast notes on the end, I don’t see any reason why the beer has to be this big and alcoholic. At this point, the aroma is mostly just alcohol, though some salted pretzel and peanut does remain....
I get it, when 90% of your top raters drink 1-2 ounces of a beer, the BOLD FLAVORED beers are going to rise to the top, because you can just have a sip, say "Wow, that’s flavorful!" and move on. You’re not stuck with the rest of the glass wondering what the hell youre supposed to do with it. And that, in a nutshell, is the Scandinavian/English rating scene! Thanks guys, for ruining beer!

Poured into a taster showing pitch black oily soy sauce with zero head. This one is really thick. The nose shows sweet cognac mixed with gentle coffee notes. Moderate intensity of both and mixed well. The palate is thick bodied, oily, slick, and very lightly carbonated. Mostly big black dark coffee notes. A very slight cognac sweetness appears in the background. The finish shows a lot of the alcohol and almost chewable coffee flavor.

Starting to feel like a booking record, thanks going to Willrunforbeer splitting his four variants of George with me. This is just the treat I needed this weekend. Really great aroma that is similar to the base stout. Chocolate fudge hints, light ash, sweet barrel/cognac/wood.

The thicker body that is dense and super slick texture across the tongue. This barrel treatment (just like the bourbon variant) compliments the base stout extremely well. Slight warming sensation after the sip with sweet cognac finish. The carbonation is my only complaint because it was very low, but doesn’t hurt the flavor, just couldn’t score over a 4. Otherwise this is a beautiful stout.
