The Original C.D.A., Dick Danger Ale is a non-intrusive dark ale that defies style guidelines.
A large percentage of black malt gives this distinctive ale its dark brown/black color and slightly roasted flavor. The Magnum hops provide a backbone of bitterness and large late additions of Mt. Hood hops lend good flavor and aroma in the finish. Dick Danger Ale is Dick’s Brewing flagship beer and is the first beer created by late Founder, Dick Young.

Bottled. Clear nut brown, creamy head. Toffeish nose. Sweet at first with clean mouthfeel.Somewhat dusty roasty malt flavour. Drier finish with some metal and ash.

Bottle from Johns Market. Mysterious dark aromas. Not roasted/toasted malt. Not dark fruit. ? Deep reddish tones for color, with beige head that filmed out, but left "stuff". Medium bodied with moderate carbonation that renders the texture creamy as it leaves. The "brown" flavor is refined, seems to have spicey notes. This is not your everyday brown ale. It’s a sophisicate with some Belgian connections (or some spicy hop). The finish is dry, with (finally, I guess) toasted malt flavor, well balanced by some hop bitter. Leaves my mouth tingly. Way decent drink.

Bottle: A true brown pour, clear, and medium depth. Large off-white, frothy head. Nose is mostly malt, some earthiness. Soft, wet mouthful. Taste is more malts, a light roastiness, earth tones, and a little bitterness. Very moderate in flavor intensity.

On tap at Hop Vine Pub, Seattle. Ruby colour with thin beige head. Not sure what to make of this. Obviously strong in alcohol I thought at the time, although not crude. An old ale perhaps with sour malt aroma. Juicy. Some hop on end, bit of coffee and damson. Bit syrupy but I got the ABV of this so wrong, I thought it was around 9%

Bottle Pours a dark copper/amber with a smal light tan head that leaves sparse spotty lacing. Aroma is faint malty and woody. Flavors are smokey and carmel, with hint of cut hay and earth. Quite thin though and not very substantial. Finish is a quick clean slightly bitter woody taste.
