This special release is a brown winter ale with a touch of raspberries brewed with chocolate and crystal malts. Rich and tasty with a warming body and light hops. Perfectly fruited and just right for wintertime.

Nice deep brown coloured body with strong ruby highlights and a dense tan head. Aroma of potent raspberries, roasted malt, caramel and a bit of nuts. Light-bodied; Strong roasty malt flavour with a potent set of nuts and vegetables in the taste - pretty disgusting. Aftertaste shows sugars with some good raspberry tastes if you can get past the bitter nuts. Overall, an interesting fruit beer - especially for the season. The beer shows too much metal and bitter flavours and not enough malt/body. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Norm’s in Vienna, Virginia on 18-January-2008.

12oz bottle-pours a thin light tan head and mahogany color. Aroma is raspberry, dark malt. Taste is raspberry with some seltzer or astringent character, medium malt-cocoa/earthy, secondary metallic hops.

Really dark brown, lacing with a beige head. Smells like cake, raspberry, dough, and malts. Taste of malts and raspberries. Bready finish. Basically, it tastes like a brown ale and has raspberries in it. I don’t know why it is rated so low, because frankly, it demonstrates what you can do with a fruit beer... you can have a full beer taste and a nice fruity side and balance it well. Extra points for what fruit beers ought to be like.

12 oz bottle...Dark brown with reddish hues...light brown sugar head..fluffy it is...smells of sweet raspberry malty sugary goodness, soothing aroma....body is thinner than I expected, but its clean and refreshing...I taste a strong presence of malts initially, then a flush of malted raspberries, finishes with some mild mocha, raspberries don’t seem to be the focus of this ale, its good though, sadly I probably wouldn’t buy a six pack of it again, perhaps a bomber

Bottle. Something about this beer was just too artificial for me, if it was brewed with real raspberries then maybe it was just my tastebuds. The aroma however was excellent.

Bottle. Aroma of shampoo. Light brown lacing. Nice blend of raspberries with a coffee taste. Starbucks could run with this.

This one sounded like a nice idea that just did not manage to work out. Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a dark brown color with ruby highlights and a medium sized dark tan head. The aroma was tangy, sour and slightly roasty. No real fruitiness. The flavor was bitter and roasty with a moderate coffee element and a tangy off flavor that I can only assume was supposed to be berry. The finish is dry and tangy. Disappointing.

Twist off the lid and you get a slight sour hint of raspberiies and candy on the olfactory. Pour is very dark brown. Mild carbonation on the palate. Odd near alt flavors. Leaves a slight bitter taste that is well controlled. Very difficult to find the raspberries but you can if you focus. Roasty slightly burned back of throat bitterness manifiests itself lightly during the session. Finsih is mild fermenting fruit , interesting in its own way.
