Overall Impression: If I need a beer to drink during a Marathon (that's Ultra's selling point right?) I guess this would be the one...

Light cherry aroma. Clear dark amber color, minimal head. Cherry tinged taste of malts. Watery mouthfeel.

Amber color with a fizzy white head that left in tens of seconds. Light caramel aroma. Near medium with fizzy, near creamy, carbonation. It has caramel flavor. Arguably just a touch of hop bitter. It goes down surprisingly well. Finishes caramel with a little grain, and hop that has to be imagined - there is some bitterness. It’s actually refreshing when it first hits the mouth; the finish is a bit too herby/grainy. Still, this may be the best American macro. I certainly can’t remember thinking good things about a mainline A-B brew until this one.

Very clear light amber body with a small off-white head. Light caramel and malty aroma. Dry caramel and grain flavor. Medium light body with mdoerately high carbonation.

Dad handed me a bottle, so what are you gonna do. The beer is a clear golden color with a compact white head that gives up the ghost quickly. Minimal lacing. Faint grainy malt aroma. Light seltzer water body with light grain and malt flavors. The finish is absolutely flavorless unless you call bubbles a flavor. Truly a beer for people who do not like beer.

Had this at a Christmas Eve dinner because it was given to me. Has the standard pale lager smell, but maybe a little bit better. Tastes like nothing. I have never had the normal Ultra, so I can make absolutely no comparison. This beer has no offending qualities mostly because it lack qualities entirely. I would rather drink malt liquor.

Rerated 6/24/07: On tap at the Little Traverse during a poker run, Looks darker, taste is winelike. Vinegar or sour aroma in a 20 oz plastic cup. No bitterness but does has a sour taste. Mild & well behaved, quite different than the bottle I had a while ago. Old Rating: 12 oz brown bottle with a twist off cap. Has a nice aroma of sweetness. Pours a little darker than I expected, perhaps even a little brown. Initial taste is a little weak but there is no offense except for the possible hint of dishwater in the background. Is a little weak in the hop department and it seems the hops are stripped of their impressive ability and replaced with inoffensive floating hoppyness. Same with the malts., they are missing something. Do malts add calories to the beer? This beer seems to trying to imitate the amber style of dark lagers by still remaining a pale lager. I’m curios as to how a beer that is brown can be classifies as a pale lager. A little less pleasantly flavorful than many of the other good pale lagers. Finish has a lingering aftertaste that is not too pleasing. This is somewhat on par with henie light and other beers of the genre. Not as good as miller highlife or rolling rock.

Pours a transparent orange with a small head. Aroma is a bit malty sweet, but the graininess is noticable. Taste is unimpressive, some malts present with than unmistakable macro metallic, grainy feel.

Bottle. A very light sour barley malt aroma. Medium amber color with decent head at first but quickly goes away. Lightly sweet malt flavor with a slight hint of hops. Actually a pleasant surprise - much more flavor that most light beers and actually has more flavor than some of the BMC regular beers - the only light (calorie) beer I’ve ever had that beats it was Gambrinus Dia but good luck finding that outside of Czech. A good effort by A-B in making a drinkable low carb beer.

Pours a brownish amber color not to deep, with a creamy white head. Has a sweet caramel aroma, but its very light and not overwhelming. Has that rich malty flavor with a weak finish.
