The beer is an 11.5% Imperial Brown Ale which we have aged in amazing Spanish sweet red barrels from Malaga. Stewart Bowman, our Head Brewer, devised an Imperial Brown Ale designed to perfectly complement the wine flavours and extract maximum depth and character from the giant barrels. We also felt the Imperial Brown Ale was ideally suited to be barrel aged and as well as the infusion of the Malaga wine character will also benefit added complexity and maturity from the time in oak.

Bottle at Beer Hunters. Opaque black color, no head. Soya, toastyness and sugar in the nose. Also light oxizided "milkyness". Medium-bodied, velvety palate. Toffee, alcohol has toned down somewhat, madeirawineish flavors. Aged gently.

37,5 cl bottle @ lusikka. Bottle #8617/9987, bottled 20.06.2012
Aroma has licorice, spices and some ripe fruits. Feels medicine-like. Flavour is rather medicine-like with strong licorice tones, some saltiness, sweet malts and spicy tones. Also quite strong woody tones – and perhaps porto tones. Not the most typical ASA and also too sweet. Smoothness is nice here anyway.

A dark brown ale with a very thin mocha head. In aroma, loads of dark fruits, candy sugar, grassy British hops, vinous character, very nice and smooth. In mouth, a beautiful vinous malt, raisins, surranated hops, licorice, alcohol warmth, beautiful and delicious. #OttBottShare. Thanks Marissa.

Bottle bought at Systembolaget in September 2012. Almost black with a small head. Sweet with raisin, chocolate, malt, oak and some red wine. Potent with warming alcohol. A pleasant one to sip.

Poured from a corked 375mL bottle [bottle 4162 of 9987 bottled on 20/06/12]. Murky dark brown with minimal tan head. Aroma of plum, molasses, alcohol, wood, and caramel (reminds me of a low-hop barley wine). Taste similar with the wine characteristics coming through and very subtle chocolate. No carbonation. Light-medium body.

Bottle bought @ Systembolaget. Pours hazy goldenish dark brown with a very small bubbly goldenish beige head that quickly dissipates without leaving any trace on the glass. Smell is sweet, malty and fruity with caramel, moist wood, hay, alcohol, toffee, sweet red desert wine, sweet dark bread and moist soil. Taste is sweet, bitter, malty and fruity with caramel, sweet dark bread, sweet red desert wine, hay, moist wood, toffee, red berry fudge, moist soil and alcohol. Mouthfeel is sticky sweet, round, tiny astringent, slightly boozy and medium to full bodied. Finish is sweet, bitter, malty and fruity with caramel, biscuits, hay, moist soil, moist wood, dark grapes, raisins and hints of cocoa powder. Very sweet but yet very nice. I had lower expectations than this I must confess.

375ml bottle shared with jeevan. Pours very dark brown, thin tan head. Juicy red wine aromas, wood and marzipan. Really intriguing. Taste balances things out between sweet, bitter and booze. Port-like towards the end. Very nice.
