The beer is an 11.5% Imperial Brown Ale which we have aged in amazing Spanish sweet red barrels from Malaga. Stewart Bowman, our Head Brewer, devised an Imperial Brown Ale designed to perfectly complement the wine flavours and extract maximum depth and character from the giant barrels. We also felt the Imperial Brown Ale was ideally suited to be barrel aged and as well as the infusion of the Malaga wine character will also benefit added complexity and maturity from the time in oak.

At the first Kinki Beer Tasting, bottle 3273 of 9987. My second favorite of the four, this imperial brown/barleywine was the best balanced of the bunch. It poured a reddish-brown almost cola-ish pour. The aroma had a touch of booze but was mostly malty sweet, caramel & raisin. The medium-light body was malty sweet goodness, not too complex but incredibly solid.

On the train from Hereford to Inverness, bottle from Realale.com Twickers, 18/10/13. Opaque mahogony brown with a thin light tan covering. Nose is dark malts, toffee fudge, light booze, muscavado sugars, light smoke, earthy cocoa tones, fruity jams. Taste comprises dark malts, berry fruit compote, cake mix, chocolate, toffee fudge, raspberry tones, sherry notes. Full bodied, fine carbonation, boozey finale. Decent drop, the alcohol is well integrated and this beer carries a good level of depth - lots going on!

Bottle - Dark fruit, brown sugar and some chocolate. Muddy brown with a thin brown head. Molasses, dark fruit, some sourness (from the wine I assume) and a little heat in the finish along with some coffee notes. Very complex and definitely worth a try.

Bottle, # 9279. Pours dark with a very small head. Aroma is sweet of muscovado, nuts and chocolate. creamy body with soft carbonation. Flavour is sweet with grain, chocolate and muscovado, before finishing off with notes of burned malts and a good deal of sweet fruitiness.
