Danke an DerDoppelbock! 11/11/10/9/10/10

33 cl bottle, thanks to tkrjukoff!BB June 2011, sampled on April 1, 2011Clear dark brown color, small brown head. Dry, dusty, cocoa scent, also some chocolate. Acidic tos our taste with hints of coffee in the aftertaste. Thin and moussy mouthfeel. Low bitterness.

Bottle from Star Grocery in Berkeley, CA. Pours dark, dark brown with a creamy beige/tan head. Aroma is sort of coffee and funk. Near med body. Flavor is chocolate and coffee and something like dark fruit. It sort of grabs the mouth, but not exactly in an astringent manner. Hints of cola. Certainly not the freshest coffee, but strong. Like coffee that sat in the cup overnight. Grutchy. It’s good or it’s not good. I’m gonna go with good. It has character fer sure.

Small to medium, yellow, dense & fine head over reddish brown-black beer. Coffee, moccha, and a bit of milkchocolate in the nose. Very explicit burnt grains sourness, roasted, coffee-ish. Acidity is truly very dominating. Lactic, lactic acid, yoghort-like, chocolate truffles. Warming up, some tobacco. Sharp, if refreshing acidity, slick; medium bodied. The acidity is such that is seems more like an oud bruin with too much roasted malts/grains.

Bottled 330ml. -Trade with Allen (thanks Julian!). Dark brown (almost black) coloured, medium sized brown head, dry coffee nose. Well, looking at other ratings here, I don’t know what to think about this beer. Strong roasted malt, coffee dark chocolate start with not so pleasant over-riped berries (red currant maybe) finish. I liked that coffee/chocolate part a lot but that fruity part was quite repulsive. No matter if the bottle was spoilt or regular this espresso stout is very interesting beer.

Bottle: Poured a black color stout with a light medium brown foamy head with average retention and not much lacing. Aroma of medium dry espresso with light roasted malt also noticeable. Taste is a nice enough mix between some espresso coffee and light roasted malt. Body is too thin for style with adequate carbonation and no apparent alcohol. Not bad overall but hard to compare when you taste so many huge IS; this one seems a bit thin in terms of body and taste.

Bottled. A black beer with a brown head. The aroma has notes of both sweet and roasted malt and chocolate, as well as light notes of coffee. The flavor is sweet with notes of roasted malt and coffee, leading to a dry roasted finish. Thanks omhper for sharing.
