Bottle from Hippo Beers. Hazy brown body with a medium off-white head. Light lacing. Aroma of toffee, raisin and honeycomb. Flavour of toffee, caramel and fig rolls. Medium body with a smooth, creamy texture. Soft fizz. Very sweet and rich.

Dark brown, strong tan lasting head with nice lacing. Aroma is of brown sugar, some toffee and roasted chocolate malt. Taste is medium sweet brown sugar and toffee to chocolate and roasted dryish finish. Medium to full bodied and medium carbonation.

The second Troubadour beer, since 2003; haven’t often tasted this since then so this rating is based on old notes. Sticky, beige, lacing head, very dark burgundy bronze colour, misty. Liquorice, raisins, coffee grounds, banana, whisky, coconut, almond and bitter chocolate in the nose; estery onset, soft and well-balanced, not cloying sweetness, chocolatey malty taste, caramelly, nutty but not as thick as one would expect from an 8.5% ABV ’stout’, dried fruits, roasted coffee bitterish finish along with elegantly lingering brown sugar sweetness, spicy yeasty notes and leafy hop bitter. Revisited yesterday in Sint-Niklaas and though this is certainly a very good beer, in line with the rest of their range, I still fail to understand why they originally marketed this as a stout. It has a tad more ’roastedness’ than average in Belgian strong ales, but I still prefer to see this as a well-accomplished, well-balanced, ’restrained’ and very tasteful ’massieve ale’, if this still means anything to Belgian beer consumers in post-OBP times...

BOTTLE 33 CL. Aroma: chocolate, light roast, same hop profile as Westkust (grassy, lemony, unripe fruit), but less intense. The flavour is similar: sweet and bitter chocolate, red fruit, good balancing spicy hops, some ashes in the finish. No smelly cheese, unlike yesterday’s Westkust. It is like a younger sister of the Westkust, same but different, more of a stout, less of an IPA. Very good and well integrated.

0,33L bottle, 25.03.17. Pours very dark ruby-black with light brown head. The head stays. Aroma is sweet, burnt sugar, malt, caramel. Flavor is sweet, dark fruits, vinous notes, caramel, burnt sugar, malt. Finish is burnt bitter. Overall: great brew.

750 ml bottle into signature tulip glass, best before 8/6/2015. Pours slightly hazy deep reddish brown color with a 2 finger dense and rocky khaki head with fantastic retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lasts. Nice dense soapy lacing clings around the glass, with a good amount of streaming carbonation retaining the head. Aromas of big chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, toast, brown sugar, brown bread, raisin, plum, fig, pear, apple, white grape, light pepper, light nuttiness, and herbal/yeast earthiness. Damn nice aromas with good balance and complexity of dark/roast/bready malt and fruity/earthy yeast ester notes; with great strength. Taste of chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, toast, brown sugar, brown bread, raisin, plum, fig, pear, apple, white grape, light pepper, light nuttiness, and herbal/yeast earthiness. Light peppery yeast spice/roast bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of chocolate, cocoa, coffee, toast, brown sugar, brown bread, raisin, plum, pear, apple, grape, light nuttiness, and herbal/yeast earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Very nice complexity and robustness of dark/roast/bready malt and fruity/earthy yeast flavors; with a great malt/yeast balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a smooth, moderately creamy, and lightly bready/chalky mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish. Overall this is an excellent Belgian style imperial stout. All around great complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malt and fruity/earthy yeast flavors; and very smooth to sip on for the ABV. A very enjoyable offering.

330 ml bottle at the Beerstore, Thessaloniki. Dark copper color with beige head. MAlty aroma with dark fruits. Sweet and light bitter taste. malty caramel and fruity. Ligh to medium body, oily, soft carbonation.
