Making ’kriekenbier’ based on ’oud bruin’ is an old tradition and delivered some great beers, yet the Bacchus brand jumped on the bandwagon only in 2009. Thinnish, off-white head on a deep wine-red robe, practically clear. Aroma smells a bit of ’kriekenjenever’ (Flemish gin variant made with cherry syrup), grenadine, sour cream, strawberry, apple sauce, hazelnuts, honey; taste explicitly sweet but fortunately not exagerratedly lemonade- or sugarlike, soft and mellow, sweet cherries rather than their sourish counterpart but still just enough acidity to balance out the initial sweetness a bit. Yet too sweet to my taste, I’d prefer the Verhaeghe Echte Kriek or even the old Liefmans Kriekenbier from pre-Moortgat times.

Flaska från Beernavigator. Brunröd, klar vätska med krämigt lågt ljusbrunrött skum. Stor doft av söta solmogna körsbär som är trevlig och inte alls artificiell. Söt smak med mycket körsbär. Lite som en söt cider, väl dold alkohol, fin körsbärssmak men tyvärr alldeles för söt. Funkar ändå väl kyld i solen med några isbitar i. Bra smaker som inte är artificiella. Trevlig trots för stor sötma.

0,375 l bottle. Pours dark red, nearly unclear in the glass. Foamy head. Light herb and sourish dark cherries in the nose. Tastes more sweetsour dark cherry, low bitterness, light oily and fizzy. Sticky. Light malty in the aftertaste. Like it!

Taste: sweet cherry candy, syrupy, bit lemony, soft bitterness. Aftertaste: sweet and sugary, cherry candy, bit lemony, bit of caramel. Meh.

Bottle from Tesco’s, enjoyed in the comfort of my own home. Muddy brownish red, hazy. Bubbly pinky-beige head that goes down fairly sharpish. Fresh cherry aroma, with a bit of cedar, raisin and bubblegum in the background. Taste is sour-sweet, very refreshing with a surprisingly clean and somewhat dry finish. Refreshing, enjoyable and tasty if not terribly complex. A lovely fruit beer.

Bottled 375ml. -from Svijet Piva Zagreb. Deep ruby red coloured, small pinkish head, hint of glue in rather tart cherry nose. Not much difference between this one and Frambozen except the type of fruit. Slight syrupy. Boring one.
