An amber colored ale, Black Isle Red Kite is brewed using only the highest quality Maris Otter pale and crystal malts for flavor and body. Challenger hops for bittering with the late addition of Styrian Goldings creates a balance of quenching citrus and malt, and a classic aromatic finish to this refreshing ale. This beer is bright amber with a toasted nut flavor and powerful orange fruit aroma.

Clear amber-red color, small off-white head, some lace. Nutty, rye-bready aroma with light hints of citrus. Light bodied. Bready and nutty flavor, lots of caramel/crystal malts. Light bitterness and sour note. A bit too sweet bitter for my liking.

Aroma is sweet with vanilla, some hops, strawberries and hints of vegetables. Flavour has strawberries, hops, some vanilla and vegetables. A bit unpleasant, the vegetable aroma starts to come more through towards the end of the pint.

Copper brown, slightly off white big frothy head, reasonable lacing.
Aroma of caramel malt, light spicy hops, hay, hint of cereal, bit of yeasty farmyard
Taste of caramel malt, bit of roasted malt, bitter spicy bit earthy hops, some grass, bit of citrus, yeast.
Palate - soft carb, thin to medium body. Bitter sides of tongue. Finish - malt and yeast with a bitter, bit tangy lingering finish (perhaps a hint of citrus zest?) that gradually fades (some yeast on the tail), eventually clearing off the palate - the finish is a little harsh.
Overall - Above average bitter with more flavour than usual. Better here than when Iβve tried it cask.

(Cask at White Horse, Parsonβs Green, London, 20 July 2011) Reddish amber colour with creamy, beige head. Fruity, malty nose with notes of red fruit, orange peel and hints of caramel. Malty, fruity taste with orange peel, caramel, red fruit and a mild spicy bitterness in the finish. Medium body, fairly sweet. Quite nice.

Tap @ Caley Sample Room. Pours an amber-red with a nice head. The nose is intriguing with notes of barra-brith and then hazelnuts. The taste has more of the nuts and a sweet maltiness with some gentle herby hops on the end. The palate is medium in structure, with a good creamy texture and a refreshing finish.

Cask @ Cambridge Bar, Edinburgh. Copper colour, creamy off-white head. Aroma is light caramel malts, bit of toffee and candy sugar. Flavour is caram malts, light hopped and toffee. Slightly bitter, fairly bitter finish. Not in the best condition and served too warm.

50cl bottle. It pours a copper going on cherry-aid colour. There are steady bubbles and a generous head some of which hangs about. The nose is malty with a vague hint of toffee-apple and a green hop note on the end. The taste is much fruitier with crisp Granny Smith apples and some pine on the end. The palate is well balanced - medium-bodied, fairly creamy in texture and a refreshing finish. Overall, a good ale!

Bottle. Nutty toffee malt aroma with a hint of grass. Dark amber color with large tan head and strong effervescence. Lightly sweet toffee malt and bitter grass hops flavor. Light watery body. Okay but light.
