Sweet, roast malts, big coffee and chocolate all star in this beer. Brewed with lactose to smooth the bitterness of darker malts and add a light creaminess to this sessionable dark beer. We use wonderful whole bean Hasbean coffee for this brew.

Bottle 50 cl. A gusher - very lively, the kind of beer that keeps coming for quite a while. Pours pitch black with a fizzy, beige head. Lightish body, very rough coffee flavor - comes out more like ashes, very dusty and raw. Finish is dry. I don’t sense the lactose that most often softens and sweetens a beer. 190417

Smell of coffee, tar, licorice. Dark brown colour, massive brown head. Aroma of coffee, milk, licorice, tar. Finishes with chocolate. Sweet with a mild bitterness. Strong carbon, surprisingly heavy body for this low ABV.

Bottle, slow gusher. Nearly black with huge tan head. Roasted malt, milk chocolate and coffee aroma. Similar flavour plus some caramel. Finishes with coffee bitterness and notes of licorice. Pretty good for the ABV.

Keg at Beany Green, Southbank. Tasting possibly hampered by being out by a cold wintery Thames. Feint sweet malty aroma. Deep and dark, like my eyes. Good creamy beige head. A sharp bitterness bursting through sweetness. Brown sugar, lactose, coffee and berries. Thick bodied. Soft yet crisp in me gob. Long understated finish. Enjoyable. Definitely sweet but the coffee then gives it a kick.

Bottled (Spontaneous KSMT tasting).Black colour, mediumsized beige foamy head, which leaves some lace. Aroma is coffee, roasted malts, some vanilla, liquorice and mild toffeeish notes as well. Flavour is very similar, in a very smooth way. Rather nice for being this low abv’d.
