Tap @ OIBF ’16 with Zlotta & Markoijelena. Mostly black color. Dense beige head. Aroma’s: sour, somewhat roasted. Retronasal:chocolate, roast, sourish, vinous, light funky. Flavor is light sweet, light sour, dark chocolate. Medium bodied. Finishes roasty, bitter chocolate.

Sampled from tap at the Oedipus International Beer Festival 2016. Hazy, dark brownish red to black with a beige head. Sweetish, sourish-fruity aroma of dark chocolate, coffee, cherries, vinegar and oak. Sweetish, sourish-fruity taste of dark chocolate, coffee, cherries, vinegar and oak, followed by a medium long, slightly tart and a little vinous finish. Medium body, slightly creamy and a little astringent mouthfeel, soft carbonation. Really nice!

Black beer, schwarzbier-like, with brett and lacto, oak aged in a former red wine foeder. What can go wrong. Sourness nicely balanced.

Draught Almost no head; deep cola-coloured beer. Is it the colour? I seem to smell cola as well; dark malts, hint at lactic acid, yet I’d qualify it as sweetish aromas. Lightly roasted too. Light-sourish, very woody, chocolate taste. Bit vinous, but also - again - cola. Not very outspoken, strangely. Light alcoholwarming. Some vegetal wryness in the aftertaste. Not very easily drinkable, closed complexity.

Draft at Churchkey. Black color, tan head. Aroma of sourdough brownies, coffee. Taste is softly sour and roasty cocoa and anise. I’m not normally a fan of dark sours but this one works.

Half. keg at Earl of Essex where it was listed with 8 % abv. Patchy fawn-coloured head. Jet black body. Aroma of liquorice and dark berries. Mixed taste of liquorice, coffee and mid-tart black currant. Tart and sweet ending. Well bodied. Much appreciated (Islington, London 10.04.2016).

Keg at the Bottle Shop - Bermondsey. Pours mostly clear brown with a frothy tan head. Decent bit of funk on the nose, some sweat, lacto, lemon, earth. Light-medium sweet flavor with light sugary toasted brown bread, some leathery berries, brown sugar, light acidity, a little vinegar, poop, raisins. Medium bodied with average carbonation. Lightly tart on the finish, with faint roast, some diapers, musty earth, vague cocoa, more tangy berries. Interesting stuff. Pretty good.

750ml bottle. Stirchley Wines, Brum. Clear, dark, chestnut brown. Bubbly, tan head settles down into a dense layer. Aroma of Old Jamaica chocolate. Tangy, sweet, and vinous. Taste is tangy and vinous. Lots of earthy, woody dryness. Easy drinking. Wouldn’t guess 8%. More tang in the finish, alongside a chocolatey sweetness. Nice one.

Draught@Beer Temple, Amsterdam. Black colour, small brown head. Aroma is sour wood, some fruits, mild roasted notes. Flavour is rather similar, but has some nice funky and mild tart and sour notes to it.
