Aroma and flavour are woody and fruity. Some raisins. Very dry tasting. Just a slight astringent note too.
Earlier Rating: 10/19/2014 Total Score: 3.2
Black, no head. Roast malt aroma. Thin body. Has a edge of dark fruits. Not particularly sour.

Thank you for sharing RB Crew! Sampled 750 ml. bottle @ GBF 2017. Aged on wine foudre. I found the base beer to be rather decent but this one didn’t appeal to me. Dark brown, little head. Nose is weird soured dark malt, spoiled sweet cherry, flat oxidized spoiled wine & oak. Taste is rotting cherry, watery wine oak, spoiled bark, watery spoiled sweet cherry, body is likewise. Didn’t work for me, I question a bit that this was the intent. Earlier Rating: 9/30/2014 Total Score: 3.7Sampled draft @ Borefts 2014. Thank you! Black, little tanned head. Mocha, syrup, malty, light tart fruit & roast. Fruity herbal. Not bad but didn’t figure out that this was a sour.

27.08.2016, 0,75l bottle @ home:
Nice creamy mediumlasting head. Aroma is slightly sweet and roasted, dark malts, bloodlike minerals, licorice, oak, redwine, chocolate, grass, caramel, alcohol. Taste is slightly dry mineraly, weeds, roasted grain, oak, dark malts, minerals, hay, chocolate, bark, alcohol, redwine. Medium bitterness, slightly dry mineraly mouthfeel. Fair enough.

Small shortlasting head. Aroma is mild sour-ish, dried dark fruits, redwine barrel, caramel malts, hay, sugar, hints of paint. Taste is dry and slightly harsh, heather, redwine barrel, cardboard, bark, caramel malts, hay, grass, dried dark fruits, weeds. Medium bitterness, dry slightly harsh mouthfeel. Not my cup of tea.

At GBF. Apparently a kind of strong milk stout refermented with Brettanomyces - a first for me. Lightly lacing, moussy, tan head over a very dark burgundy coloured beer with wine red hue, translucent so not literally ’black’ as indicated. Aroma of caramel, cocoa, leather, moldy hazelnut shells, blackberries, cassis, fig. Soft dried fruit and candied fig sweetishness, softish carbo, sourish touch, supple caramelly and nutty middle, leathery Brett accents towards the finish, dryish but still juicy, rounded, lightly bittering. Unusual but very enjoyable, but more a kind of ’Bretty’ porter than a stout - or indeed a brown sour ale?
