American 'oud bruin' with blackcurrant, my first from this Tennessee brewery (and a new 'state tick' too apparently). Medium thick, moussy, somewhat pinkish-tinged off-white head, hazy wine red robe, ruby hue. Aroma of ripe blackcurrants and actual cassis juice, blackcurrant yoghurt, red wine vinegar, hazelnut, sweat, 'Roosvicée', passionfruit, plum peel. Very fruity, 'cleanly' estery onset, lots of blackcurrant juice, souring and a tad spicy but with a sweetish core to it, softish carbo, smooth and bit vinous mouthfeel. Nutty malt core, a tad bready, but the sourness turns a bit vinegary and astringent in the end, overpowering too much - as is so often the case in new and foreign interpretations of this ancient Flemish style. Lots of lingering fruitiness, actual cassis as well as yeasty esters. Nice, in all, but not world class.
