Surprisingly I spotted this 750 ml bottle on the shelf at a Total Wine on the Strip in Las Vegas in the spring during March Madness. Go figure. I bought it and brought it home of course, Mikkeller is tough to find in Texas. This is a treat. I use my Chimay glass for the tasting, no brainer on that. The pour gives a chestnut brown body and a slender, finely-bubbled top. The nose is brown sugar, caramel and malt. A drink now, yeah, this is good. Toffee, dark plum, yeast, malt, biscuit and spice. A slight burn as it goes down. Very nice. I will savor this bottle, doubtful I’ll ever see Santa’s Little Helper again.

(Draught at Oliver Twist, Stockholm, 9 Dec 2017) Dark reddish brown colour with frothy, beige head. Malty, fruity nose with notes of dried fruit, caramel, burnt sugar and vinous aromas of alcohol. Malty, fruity taste with caramel, dried fruit, treacle, soy sauce, spices, a touch of coffee and a sweetish, vinous finish with a mild spicy bitterness. Full body, quite sweet. A bit unbalanced and boozy, but really tasty. Nice one.

330ml bottle, b.b.15/09/27 bought at Vinmonopolet Stokmarknes. Firm, bubbly, beige head to a coal black body with a deep rustic tint. Crocheted lacing. Modest spiced aroma, hints of dark dough and dried fruits. Sweet brown malty flavours joined by spices, earth and dark plums. Prolonged ending. Decent Yuletide feel, a sipper that gets a tad too sweet in the long run. (Stokmarknes 02.03.2018).

On tap at Svijet piva (World of Beer), Maksimirska, Zagreb. Shared with Zvonko! Dark brown with a reddish tint. Small creamy off-white head. Roasty, alcohol, dried fruits, toffee, spices. Balanced - sweet and roasty. Very strong, dry finish. Nice, but no complexity.
